Summer Welcome Letter - Calvary Classical School

June 2015
Dear Fourth Grade Students and Parents,
Do you know what happened after the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 AD — what became
of Europe, Christianity, and the Bible? Do you know why they built such gigantic cathedrals back
then? Why was there a disease known as the Black Death? Why all the fuss about a man named
Martin Luther nailing a big piece of paper to a door? What were the great scientific discoveries of
Copernicus and Galileo? And, of course, everybody wants to know why Leonardo Da Vinci wrote
backwards! We have so many enthralling and world-changing events to learn about in 4th grade!
Hello! My name is Mary Beth Antcliff, and I am the fourth grade teacher at Calvary Classical
School. This upcoming year, I am looking forward to leading you down the path of history and
introducing you to the answers to these important questions. To let you know a little about myself,
this is my third year teaching at Calvary Classical School. I graduated from Virginia Tech, and that is
where I met my husband, Kevin Antcliff. He is a PHD student working at NASA. My favorite pastimes
include reading, traveling, taking walks with my greyhound, Belle, and watching Netflix. Jesus has
always been the purpose of my life, and I love that I can share that purpose with my students.
We will hit the ground running once school starts, so remember to continue your love of
learning during summer break! Read, Read, Read! This is essential to making you a more proficient
reader, increasing your vocabulary and preparing you to write eloquently. Review math facts, write
creative stories, and explore the scientific world outside that God has created.
Fourth grade at CCS will be a year filled with excitement, questions, new and challenging
math skills, writing workshops, riveting history, songs, games, chants, field trips, and more! I can’t
wait to spend our year together. I’m working hard this summer to make this upcoming year a
challenging, rigorous, fun, and memorable experience!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 804-712-1134, or you can reach me at
[email protected]. God has a plan for us next year, and I can’t wait to experience it
with you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mary Beth Antcliff
