SEE BELOW. **BASIC BICYCLE PATROL COURSE MANDATORY EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS CHECKLIST** DUTY BICYCLE Reputable Manufacturer mountain bicycle (24-27 speed) in good working order. Bicycles should be inspected by a bicycle shop mechanic prior to the course! It is also HIGHLY recommended they be re-inspected after the course! Street/combination tires (size 26x1.5 - 26x2.1) recommended. Pedal retention devices (toe clips or clipless pedals) are recommended, but not required. Two water bottle cages with bottles. Headlight system w/10-watt minimum (police lighting accessories optional). LED or flashing red taillight. Rear-mounted kickstand (not in the middle). Rear bike rack w/ full-size rack bag. Siren (optional). Off-road tires (optional). Tire patch kit. Tire levers. 2 spare tire tubes. Mini-pump and basic bicycle repair tools. (i.e. spoke wrench, multi-tool, etc.) SAFETY EQUIPMENT Bicycle helmet (CPSC, ANSI, or Snell approved). Padded cycling shorts for under uniform. Whistle (optional). ATTIRE Full-duty Department bicycle patrol uniform (worn the entire course) consisting of a shirt, shorts or long pants (preferably bike patrol-type pants), and bullet-proof ballistic vest. Duty jacket and long pants for nighttime ride and/or inclement weather. Bring extra clothes to change into after each day or in case a change mid-shift is needed. DUTY BELT Full duty belt (nylon belt recommended, but not required) consisting of: Duty handgun. Bring - 50 rounds of ammo for range scenarios. Magazines. Baton (Expandable type recommended). Handcuffs. Cuff Key. Flashlight (mini-type recommended). Belt Keepers. Other department-required duty gear. SNACKS/ ENERGY ITEMS Energy drinks - “Gatorade” will be provided so you can pour it into your bottle. Water bottles – Water will be provided so you can pour it into your bottle. Snack/energy foods (like “PowerBar”) for before/during/after rides (not provided). Have your POST ID number with you. One day you must bring a lunch, one day must bring money for lunch out during a ride. Pen/pencil/notepad for patrol. Sunscreen skin protection. Money for food breaks and emergency equipment/repair needs. Just in case you fall kit (i.e. band aids, wound cleaning spays, etc.). If possible for the last day (night ride) bring your Station’s (RSO only) H.T.’s.
