In my opinion
“Our life is made up of time. Our days are measured in hours, our pay measured by those hours, our knowledge is
measured by years. [...] And yet time eventually runs out and you wonder in your heart of hearts if those seconds,
minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years & decades were being spent the best way they possibly could.” Cecelia Ahern
Speaking of time, we are almost to the halfway mark of the year, a lot of work and effort has been put in
to the school year so far and we are already discussing programmes for the end of this year.
However this past week has been busy again with 4 x teams from our leadership group representing us
in the EPRO8 Technology Challenge, which was held in our school hall. There were two competitions,
one for the Year 7s and 8s held on Monday night, and the Year 5s and 6s held on Tuesday morning.
Students competed in teams of 4 over a two and a half-hour period, building a variety of structures
designed by the students. Equipment used was purpose built, aluminium tubing, wheels, cogs, pulleys,
motors, wiring etc.
As the evening went on teams were awarded points depending on what goals they ticked within a
design brief. All teams were fully engaged and worked hard.
Our teams were called:
‘Andrew’s Astronomers’ (Kowhai Moor, Kayla Bennett, Holly Rameka and Andrew Stretton) placed 1st
‘Renata’s Researchers’ (Holly Yeoman, Kitty Prier, Renata Ngata and Zac Maulder) placed 2nd
These two teams will now go on to a regional semi-final.
‘Sapphire’s Scientists’ (Tyler Gordine, Maia-Rose Reremoana, Amelia Funnell, Ben Raven) and
‘Tessa’s Technologists’ (Shyia Nixon, Tessa Castle, James Pettman, Boaz Mellor) had a great time.
At our last assembly we were entertained by our school rock band called “Cold Cut Platinum”, and at the
same assembly we have presented and discussed some of the happenings in our school and have asked
for students to;
-
-
consider making an application for the tramp through the Abel Tasman National Park. We are only able to
take 16 students on the trip so if your child is interested, a well put together application will be necessary
to be considered. We would expect at least 60 – 80 applications so let’s be in to win.
trialling for the mountain biking, the football teams.
continue to practise for the JRock Festival happening in 2 x weeks’ time in Rotorua
start thinking about our major fundraiser the sponsored Roadside and lake side clean-up where we ask our
students to seek support from people to sponsor their efforts.
Apply and use their skills to enter into the Maggi Kitchen Cook Off competition.
We are also consolidating the arrangements for the Major School Production which is to be held in the
4th Term of this year.
This week our Teachers have also been busy being involved with
Professional Learning Development in Mathematics with a major component
being two tutors from School Support (Waikato University) visiting and
observing our teachers teaching Mathematics in their classes.
Following their lessons, the teachers have been able to get feedback on
their performance and some advice and ideas for the teachers to work on.
I hope we got something out of the latest budget??? MMmmmm!!
Thank you all again for the continued support and have a great weekend
– my bolters for the All Blacks named this weekend would be Lima
Sapoanga 1st 5/8 and Elliot Dixon no 6 from the Highlanders.
