BALTIMORE (VPI) *~ Maryland
prison officials are-praising New
York police and the FBI for their
work in apprehending a convicted
murderer who escaped from armed
guards at a Baltimore hospital three
years ago.
"It was a fine bit of work on the
part of the New York police department and the FBI because when they
picked him up he gave an altos. If
they hadn't gone through and
checked his fingerprints, he might
still be out there," said Beverly
Marable, a spokeswoman for the
state corrections division.

those of George Greene.

Greene escaped from Maryland
authorities on April ,18, 1902, after
pleading guilty to two counts of
murder. The, slayings occurred in
March, 1981 during a robbery at
Gampy's restaurant in downtown
Baltimore.
Prison officials said Green may
have used a paper clip to unlock his
leg irons before slipping away from
seven other inmates and two guards
as they walked to an'inmate holidng
area at University Hospital.

with a bachelor of science degree in
industrial distribution.

The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. G. Allan Vollmers of 9
Wildhedge Lane, Holmdel. The
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee
Borland of Signal Hill, Lake Placid,
N.Y.
Nancy McLean of Fords was the
bride's maid of honor. The groom's
best man was John Latourelle of
Lake Placid.
For her wedding the bride wore a
white, peau de soie, full-length, portrait neck gown with chapel train and
lace bordering the neckline and hem.
A crown of white roses held her
fingertip veil of silk illusion.

SARANAC LAKE - Village police
arrested Timothy Edward Rock, 26,
of Plattsburgh at 4:51 p.m. Wednesday for petty larceny. Police say
Rock was arrested for taking $177.63
worth of cigarettes from the Lake
Flower Avenue Grand Union.
Rock pled guilty after arraignment
before Village Justice Thomas Clark
and was sent to the Essex County jail
in lieu of $500 bail to await sentencing.
S.L. Fire Call
SARANAC LAKE - Volunteer
firemen were called to the Wawbeek
Hotel and Resort on Rte. 30 at 1:54
p.m. Wednesday, where a fire built
too close to the front of the fireplace
was causing smoke to pour into the
building. The fire was extinguished
by the time firemen arrived.
The Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire
Department was also called to the
scene.

SARANAC LAKE - Patty Brown,
a Registered Nurse and certified
nurse-midwife, will join the
obstetrics/gynecology practice of
Denise Ferrando, M.D.
Brown has been a midwife for the past six years and was with the offices of Dr. Robert Virostek. Her services include family planning,
general exams, infertility counseling
and normal pregnancy care.
She will hold office hours on
Wednesdays and Fridays from 1-5
p.m. beginning Sept. 4.

now Monday through Friday from
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thursdays

Green was sentenced to two consecutive life terms for the Gampy's
murders. His brother, Willie Green,
43, was also convicted in the same
incident and is serving two consecutive life terms plus 20 years.
