Welcome
President Denis Paulin #16672, welcomed the members present and made comment of the wonderful
Beach Party theme for the Friday night Meet and Greet.
Denis referred to the question asked at the Extended National Committee meeting held on Friday 16th
April, regarding a question from a member about the refund of fees if a member dies. The answer is
yes, fees would have to be refunded to the member’s estate.
Denis took the opportunity to recognise International visitors at the Annual General Meeting:

2014 AGM Event Report
The 2014 AGM Event Host Director, Ross Geoghegan #24695 reported that he and the Event Host
Committee wish to thank all volunteers, the Alice Springs Council and the NT Government for all their
assistance and support. Ross noted that 2600 members paid registration, and 2478 members attended
the event.

Presentation of Life Membership for Michelle Dick #25391.
National Secretary John Evans #17954 read the nomination for Life Membership as nominated by John
Evans #17954 and seconded by Rick Bedford #7481 (Life Member 12).
Life Membership #16. The proposal for Life Membership for Michelle Dick was approved by the
National Committee at the February 1st 2014 National Committee meeting, and ratified by the members
at the Extended Natcom Meeting on Friday 16th May 2014.

Dearnley Medal Awards:
Dearnley Medal number 45: Roxanne Stone # 43827 as nominated by the Redlands Branch. The
proposal for the Dearnley Medal for Roxanne was approved by the National Committee at the October
19th 2013 National Committee Meeting. This medal was not presented at the AGM but was presented
by the Branch at their request.
Dearnley Medal number 46: Henry Rokx # 28636 as nominated by the Yarra Ranges Branch. The
proposal for the Dearnley Medal for Henry was approved by the National Committee at the August 24th
2013 National Committee Meeting.
Dearnley Medal number 47: Angelo Virago #8259 as nominated by the MIA Branch. The proposal
for the Dearnley Medal for Angelo was approved by the National Committee at the December 7th 2013
National Committee Meeting.

Ulysses Club Arthritis Research Fund report
Kim Kennerson #6929 Life Member 14, National Coordinator for the Ulysses Club Arthritis Research
Fund (UCARF), thanked the committee for the opportunity to present a report but commented that he
had just provided a comprehensive report to members at the Welcome Civic Ceremony and would not
repeat it.

2017 AGM Event Announcement
President Denis announced that the Ulysses Club Inc. 2017 AGM Event will be hosted by the Mid
North Coast Branch at Port Macquarie. In answer to a question from the members, Denis responded
that the AGM submission was the only one presented.
18.
Acknowledgement of Outgoing Committee Members Families
Outgoing President Denis Paulin acknowledged and thanked outgoing committee member’s partners
as listed. Denis thanked Perry Stephens who had decided to not nominate in the 2014 elections.

19. Appointment of the Returning Officer for the AGM
Denis Paulin moved that Chris Bell #30807 from the Hills Branch be appointed as the Returning
Officer for the AGM, seconded by Dale Grant #5290. All in favour.
20. Appointment of the Presiding Officer for the AGM
President Denis appointed Kim Kennerson #6929 to be the Presiding Officer. Members were asked to
support the appointment which they did by acclamation. Denis declared all National Committee
positions vacant.
All the National Committee members left the platform.
21. Conduct of Special Resolution Ballot
The proposal to hold the Ballot for the Special Resolution was questioned. As the Resolution to be held
was previous business of the immediate previous National Committee, this should have been held
before positions had been declared vacant. After a brief discussion, the members of the 2013 National
Committee returned to the platform and resumed their seats.
Alan Leahy # 45463 noted that positions had already been declared vacant and the members of the
National Committee should not be returning as they had left the table.
Rick Bedford # 7481 pointed out that as the appointment of the Presiding Officer had not been
seconded, the declaration of vacancy by the committee was not valid..
Trevor Cook #33284 read for acceptance of the Resolution.
Rick Bedford read against acceptance of the Resolution.
Member Arthur Rifkin 62549 asked if the resolution was to change the Constitution or changing
policy?
Rick Bedford #7481 responded that it would require a change to the Constitution.

Trevor Cook #33284 read the Resolution proposal and noted that it points out policies and procedures.
Wayne Rees #20279 voiced his concern that if you consult everyone, the whole process becomes very
cumbersome. If you compare the National Committee to a board of directors, the directors make the
decisions.
Gary Vandersluis #186 spoke of the legal perspective, noting that a Special Resolution is required to
change the Constitution. If the resolution is passed, the Constitution will require to be changed.
Chris Garrod #21083 said that the local Council consulted with the town regarding a bypass and that
did not change the outcome.
The Special Resolution ballot requires a 75% pass rate to be successful.
Voting was conducted and the result was as follows:
In favour - Live vote: 209, Postal vote 31 = 240
Against - Live vote: 485, Postal vote 136 = 621
The Special Resolution decision was not successful, with a total of 621 votes against the resolution.
22. Conduct of Annual General Meeting Elections
Kim Kennerson resumed the seat as Presiding Officer of the AGM.
Kim reminded all nominees that they were allowed a two minute speech.
Gary Vandersluis asked if each speaker is only delivering one speech even if they cascaded and Kim
Kennerson, Presiding Officer, responded that each person would be allowed one speech.
Rick Bedford was appointed timing officer for the AGM by Presiding Officer Kim.
Kim Kennerson read out all nominees for the President’s position asking members to cross Frank
Hocking’s name from the voting paper as he had previously withdrawn his nomination.
For each following positions, Kim Kennerson read out the names of the nominees, the nominator and
the seconder. He clearly indicated to members present when it was appropriate to cross the names of
the candidates already elected to positions, off the voting papers.

After votes were counted, the Presiding Officer Kim declared that Peter Baulch #27672 was elected as
an Ordinary Committee Member of the National Committee.
Kim Kennerson thanked the Returning Officer, Chris Bell and the Hills Branch for being the
scrutineers throughout the voting procedure.
Kim Kennerson introduced the new National Committee to the members.
Stephen Dearnley’s daughter; Alexa Brown #25511, spoke to the assembled members. She attended
her first AGM in 2007 and commented that this is an amazing organisation and gives meaning to life
for a lot of people. Ulysses brings positivity to the public perception of motorcyclist.
Alexa acknowledged all past and present committee members and encourages all members to get
behind and support the new committee. She commented that this is new beginning and new beginnings
are exciting.
The new National Committee took their places at the table.
23. General Business
National President Helena Gritton delivered an acceptance speech on behalf of the whole committee
and thanked Kim Kennerson, Rick Bedford, Gary Vandersluis and the members of the Hills Branch for
their assistance. Helena also expressed her appreciation of the members for attending and for their
patience throughout the processes of the meeting.
Dearnley recipient number 45 was presented to Henry Rokx #28636, nominated by the committee of
the Yarra Ranges branch. Vice President Jen Woods read the nomination. The proposal for the
Dearnley Medal for Henry was approved by the National Committee at the August 24th 2013 National
Committee meeting.

Kim Kennerson clarified UCARF award counting of money. The money is counted from 1st January
each year and ends with money collected by 31st December each year. If money comes in after that
date, it will not be included in the count for that year and will be included in the following year.
President Helena Gritton apologised to those present for the lack of time to hear General Business,
due to the longer than usual meeting and the need to vacate the premises by 4pm meant that we’d run
out of time to hear member concerns, suggestions and issues. Helena suggested that if anyone has
concerns they wished to raise, to please email them to the National Committee via the National
Secretary and they will be answered as soon as possible.
Meeting closed at 4pm
Immediately post meeting, President Helena thanked Savaugn Pratt #20508 for taking the minutes of
the meeting.
