Last week the Oswego Fire Department visited the Preschoolers! The Firefighters talked with students about fire safety. The Firemen also dressed up in their full fire gear to show the children what they look and sound like when they go into a fire situation. They can look and sound scary to a child! Thank you to the OFD for taking the time to come to St. Luke’s! ISSUE 2 October 2016 Dear Parents and Guardians, On this last day of our first full month of school, I am reflecting on the blessing of children. This past Monday I went to a Leadership Conference in River Forest. The devotion was on how our students are “children of the Heavenly Father”. Part of it involved a family that was taken suddenly in death. They were strong in their faith and certain in their future with Jesus. It made me feel blessed to work in a school that helps our children learn to love God and to have hope and knowledge of being eventually in heaven with Him. In this line of thinking, I wish to thank all those who are led to help us in our efforts. The congregation and our parents and guardians as a whole and as individuals are a great part of working for Him as they volunteer both time and money. Not wanting to diminish any one person’s effort, but wanting to give recognition to some, please note that the following are in the school weekly helping us “train the children in the way they should go.” (Proverbs 22:6): St. Luke’s News and Notes 2015-16 Nelly Needs Ingrid Croall Barry Croall Tara Brown Ted and Ruth Davis www.stlcschool.com Mary Ruch Venetia Crowell Angela Steinolfson Lorie Len Kim Hamann Monika Riban Laurel Lang Sue Dolusic Regina Arnold Maria Courtney Jeanne Forster Michelle Collins Mariann Benda Our PALS Group There are more, but in this letter, I would like you to thank God for these workers. Of course the work of the church and school employees does not go unnoticed. But this letter is for the many volunteers that God has moved in their heart to be a blessing unto us. Thank you! God bless you with faith, safety, and joy, Linda King, Principal Learning about statistics in 7th grade math with Mrs. Mosher! “Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, …cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.” Eph. 1:15-16 Reading is fun in preschool! IN 7th and 8th Language Arts, we have almost finished reading our book “Freak the Mighty.” Each week the students are busy learning new vocabulary, and participating in a focus in literature, writing and language. For instance, this week the students will be focusing on connotation vs. denotation for Literature Focus and intensive pronouns for language focus. In 5th and 6th grade Language Arts, the students have finished pre-writing their personal narratives and will begin planning this week. I am looking forward to reading their completed work! Each Language Arts class has been generating a class spelling list –this week students discovered palindrome words, which are words spelled the same forward and backwards. In music, we have listened to famous masterpieces such as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Pachelbel’s Cannon in D. The students have been researching facts about composers from different eras as well.
