Importance of Drinking Water
The human body is anywhere from 55% to 78% water depending on body size. A rule of thumb, 2/3 of body consists of
water, and water is the main component of the human body. Did you know that your tissues and organs are mainly
made up of water? Muscle consists of 75% water, the brain consists of 90% water, bone consists of 22% water and blood
consists of 83% water. The functions of water in the human body are vital. Water transports nutrients and oxygen into
cells, moisturizes the air in the lungs, helps with metabolism, protects our vital organs, helps our organs to absorb
nutrients, regulates body temperature, and water protects and moisturizes our joints.
Every cell in your body needs water. If you become dehydrated, your brain and body performance are greatly effected!
Workouts can become quite difficult to complete when dehydrated. Some harmful effects of dehydration can include:
tiredness, migraine headaches, constipation, muscle cramps, irregular blood pressure, kidney problems, and dry skin.
Symptoms of Dehydration:
•Dark Urine
•Urine is generally pale yellow to clear when you have sufficient water intake. Dark color or strong smell indicates that you
need to drink more water.
•Dry Skin
•Skin is the largest body organ and requires its share of water.
•Thirsty
•Hunger
•Thirst is the most obvious sign that you are already dehydrated. It is always good to practice to drink more water when you
are NOT thirsty, don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
•Most people mistake hunger for the indication to eat more, whereas in actual fact, they may be dehydrated. So before you
have your meal, grab a glass of water.
•Fatigue
•Water is a source of energy and gives you a boost of energy.
TABATA CYCLE
A 'JoyRide' with high intensity interval drills. Drills are 20 seconds of high
intensity, 10 seconds of recovery, repeated for four minutes, one minute
rest and repeat. Tabata training is the most effective way to get fit and lose
weight. This class offers an opportunity to challenge yourself by pairing the
benefits of tabata training with endurance, followed by segments of
abdominal training off of the bike. This is high-intensity at it’s best!!

Success Story
Johnny Caulder
Before
After 
I retired from Horry County School District in June of 2014. At the
time I was a little overweight, but began to gain additional weight
after retirement. I found myself eating and eating with no exercise.
No surprise, I continued to get bigger. I knew I needed to work
towards getting healthier. Then in August I heart the “C”
word…cancer! During that time I was afraid to being exercising. In
October, I had surgery in New York. While recuperating, I was unable
to begin an exercise program. While the cancer was fully addressed
and I was considered to be cancer free, the weight issue was still
present. It only intensified during the holiday season. On New Year’s
Day I resolved to get healthy. After researching the facilities in our
area, I chose the Conway Recreation Center to begin the exercise
component of my healthy lifestyle. I began to walk daily. I love it and
have met great people. We motivated each other and it has helped
me lose over 40lbs this year! Of course that has been coupled with a
change in eating habits. Due to the fact that I love to eat, I still overdo it at times. I go to the indoor walking track at the Recreation
Center to keep things balanced. My doctor is thrilled with my
progress. More importantly, I am thrilled with it! I feel better and
have the energy to do many other things. Thanks, Conway Recreation
Department for being a major part of my journey to a healthier me!
