Science Project Research Paper Requirements
Title Page (title of project and your name, date, class period)
Question (What is the question you are trying to answer with your experiment?)
Abstract (no more than 250 words, a complete description of your entire project stating what you tested,
brief statement of how you tested it, and a brief statement of your results)
Background Knowledge (one or two paragraphs of information you researched about your topic to
provide the reader with necessary information as to why you predicted the results you did)
Purpose (why are you doing this project?)
Hypothesis
Identify Independent Variable and Dependent Variable
List Controlled Variables
List Materials
Procedure (provide enough step-by-step detail someone else could perform your experiment using this
procedure)
Data tables (with a title and units)
Graphs (with a title and axes labelled with dependent variable on y-axis)
Results (discuss your tables and graphs, state any trends)
Conclusion (restate your hypothesis, state if it was supported or not, provide one or two sentences
summarizing your results. Also include any sources of errors or odd things that could have
happened to explain odd data.)
Acknowledgments (be sure to thank anyone who helped you)
Bibliography (Have at least 5 sources. MLA style is fine. For URLs, include the date you accessed it. Use
citationmachine.net or easybib.com to help)
