There are 21 cou nties and 290 m u nicip alities. Urban area (locality) There are 1 956 u rban areas in Sw ed en accord ing to m ost recent d ivision from 2010. To be consid ered as an u rban area, there shou ld be at least 200 inhabitants and the hou ses shou ld not be m ore than 200 m etres ap art. SAMS area SAMS stand s for Sm all Areas for Market Statistics and is a d ivision based on m u nicip alities su b-d ivisions (N YKO) in larger m u nicip alities and on electoral d istricts in the sm aller m u nicip alities.
