A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
It’s been eight long years --- eight, since SJB has had the Cougar band march in
the Junior Rose Festival Parade. SJB Band Director, Mr. Kinkley, led the Cougar Marching Band on a gorgeous day along the parade route playing,
“Cougarismo”…composed by Mr. K. Here is:
“We’re Saint John the Baptist, where everything’s cool. At Saint John
the Baptist we’re true to our school. We’ve got Cougarismo from head
to our toes. And we’ll keep a marchin’ with Cougarismo. That’s why we
hail to SJB! Huh! Go Cougars! And so we hail to SJB! Huh! Go Cougars!
As another highly successful Cougar school year comes to an end, we are busy
making preparations to launch into the 2013-2014 school year. Beginning in the
fall, middle school students will have the opportunity to choose from the following electives: Art, Band, Choir, Drama/Speech, HTML Web Design, Student
Leadership, and Yearbook. Expect more information from your child’s homeroom teacher outlining these exciting and enriching electives. Also for next
year, SJB will no longer be using the school management software,
MyStudentsProgress.com. Both faculty and parents expressed concerns about
how cumbersome the system is to work with. Instead, after researching several
venders, we have unanimously elected to move to a much more user-friendly
program called, SchoolSpeak. This new school management program offers
many more dynamic features that include: homework, grade book, announcements, emails, volunteer sign-up, electronic forms, online ordering and payments, and much more. Please visit www.schoolspeak.com for a sneak preview.
Further information about SchoolSpeak will be coming your way in the near
future. Lastly, we are pleased to welcome three new faculty members to SJB:
Grace Butler (library/media specialist), Jennifer Fargo (middle school language
arts and 7th grade homeroom teacher), and John Payne (middle school religion
teacher). Welcome aboard!
A CALL TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:
Tomorrow (Saturday) we will be prepping our playground for the removal and
installation of new playground equipment. We are in need of twelve or more
volunteers to help dig a small trench (6” deep by 4” wide) for silt fencing that
will run along the fence line on the south and east sides of the playground. Remember, we will begin at 9 am…and please bring a shovel. We can knock this
out in no time if we have enough Cougar power.
Thank you for supporting YOUR St. John the Baptist Catholic School!

Family Faith Sharing
We encourage parents to reflect on these questions at home each week
with their children and family. Start talking. Share your faith!!
June 9 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Luke 7:11-17
In our gospel reading today, we hear about one of miracles that Jesus performed. He and his disciples entered a
town called Nain, where they saw the funeral procession of a man who had died. This man was the only son of his
mother, who was a widow. Jesus was very sad when he saw this and told the mother not to weep. He then touched
the coffin and said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!” And at these words the young man sat up and began to talk. This
amazing story quickly spread throughout Judea and the surrounding area.
What is a miracle? Do you believe that miracles can still happen in our world? Why or why not?

Parents and Athletes… Thanks again for making it a successful year! It
has been a pleasure to serve as your Co Athletic Director. I want to thank Ron
Dowhaniuk for his service and dedication and wish him well as he ‘graduates’
this year. I also want to thank all who serve on the board and volunteer when
we need help. A very special thanks to Mrs. Day for her support and keeping me
on my toes with the weekly updates. Thanks also to Mr. Havens and Mr. Daily
for allowing us to integrate the program so nicely with the school.
Volleyball and Hot Shot Sign Ups
We will need to register teams next week so please sign up by Wednesday June
12. www. Cyocamphoward.org. No payment required until practice starts but
CYO is registering the teams now to allow us to more easily fill teams and be
ready to go in the fall. Register now and one less thing to worry about later!
We plan to field volleyball teams in grades 3,4,5,6 and 7.
Hot Shot basketball is open to both boys and girls in grades 1 and 2.
We are planning more great things for next year. I will remain as Co Athletic
director and welcome Steve Martell who has graciously stepped up to be the
new Co Athletic director. We also welcome Rick Bienapfl to the board. Kim Bell
will continue as club registrar and treasurer. She has scholarship information as
well if needed.
Summer Camps – Just a reminder that La Salle prep has a slate of camps
