Message from Principal Keevin O’Neill
VHS Families:
First and foremost, I want to thank each and every one of you for your support of Vicksburg High
School. It is a privilege to work with your children on a daily basis. So thank you for your
dedication and involvement in your child’s education; it makes a huge difference! The first
semester of the 2016-2017 school year is in the books and we are looking forward to a great
second semester.
Winter Homecoming Week begins February 6th. Please encourage your child to participate in dress
up days, assembly games, and the “Penny Wars” to benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
Our vision at VHS is for all our students to become college and career ready and the following
belief statements are used to guide us to reach this mission.
1. All students can learn at high levels, regardless of poverty, social status, and/or family
circumstances.
2. Students learn in different ways and within different timeframes.
3. Mistakes are expected, inspected, and respected.
4. When students don’t learn the way we teach, we will find ways to teach the way they learn.
5. Assessments provide feedback that influences teaching and learning.
6. Students can and will take responsibility for their learning. Students have ownership and
vision for their education.
My door is always open and I welcome your comments, questions, or feedback at anytime. I hope
to see you at VHS in the near future. Thanks for all you do.
I leave you with a quote:
“Working hard for something you don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something
you love is called passion.”
-Simon Sinek
Enjoy your day,
Keevin

From the Attendance Office
If your student is absent from school, please call the high school
attendance office as soon as possible in the morning at 321-1100 or 321-1150.
The office opens at 7:00 am, but a message may be left on the voicemail before
that time.
Pre-arranged absences may be made by sending in a note from home or
calling the high school office several days in advance of the absence.
If your student will be leaving school early for any reason, please send in
a note with your student so that they may get an early dismissal slip from the
office. That way your student will be waiting for you to arrive. If you are unable
to send in a note, please call the office as early as possible before 1:30 so that
we may page your student to the office between classes to pick up their early
dismissal slip.
YOUR FEEDBACK IS VALUED!
We want this monthly newsletter to be something useful for you; so, please feel free to
