Holi is an important festival to Hindus. It is celebrated at the end of the winter season on the last full moon day of the lunar month in February or March. During the festival dry powder colors are thrown on each other which signify the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and the end of winter. For many this is a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, and forget and forgive. Happy Holi! Upcoming Student Events Students are planning a variety of activities in March: Next Wednesday, March 11th from 8:30am ‐ 2pm, BHS Heroes are hosting the American Red Cross for a Blood Drive in the gym. Our goal is to have at least 62 pints of blood! March is 'American Red Cross Month,' and because of the difficult winter so far for many in this country, especially the Northeast, your help is needed more than ever! Community members are welcome. Students must be 16 or older to donate. Contact Francesca Villella at [email protected] for more information or to sign up. Also in the works is the Spectrum Student Sleep Out being held at BHS on Friday, March 27. On March 26 and 27, community members from across the Greater Burlington area will come together to help raise awareness of youth homelessness, spending a night sleeping outside as a show of solidarity with the many clients Spectrum Youth and Family Services serves who may be homeless or at risk of homelessness. Over 50 BHS students have already signed up to participate in this overnight community event. Community Opportunity Student Summer Opportunity From Husky: It is with great pleasure and excitement that we are announcing our second year of the Husky Injection Molding Systems Summer Institute for the summer of 2015. We will invite up to 10 students that have completed their junior year in high school and are about to enter their senior year. Successful students will participate in the CNC Machining Fundamentals program. Successful graduates of this Fundamentals program this summer would then be invited back next year to participate in the CNC Machining Advance Concepts program. The program is an 8‐week paid summer internship and pre‐apprenticeship that combines 4 hours of classroom education each day, 4 hours of job shadowing/work experience in a number of areas throughout the production areas, and a combination of didactic and applied learning. The program’s focus is on CNC (computer numeric control) machining and is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore this field as a possible career and to establish a foundation from which to start a career. The course materials that they will be covering over the 8 weeks are Blueprint Reading, Introduction to Apprenticeships/Internships, Machine Tool Math, Introduction to Inspection, Machining Processes I, and CNC – G&M Code Programming. If interested, please contact Geoff Glaspie, Plant Manager, Hot Runners – Milton, Husky Injection Molding Systems , Phone (802) 859‐8000 ext. 8101, [email protected]. Following completion of an application, students would be invited to an open house in May when the students and their parents can tour the facility, meet with previous students, meet with operators and managers, and students can interview for a position in the program.
