PBIS (POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION
SUPPORT)
During the month of April, we are focusing on behavior expectations during dismissal. Students at car
pickup must remain seated quietly on the concrete
until their parent arrives. They must keep hands, feet,
and school bags to themselves. When they enter the
car, they need to buckle seat belts. This months A/B
conduct reward will be a Sock Hop on May 1.

Congratulations
PRE-K We would like to thank all the dads, grandfathers, and brothers who were able to attend Donut Day at
Audubon. It was a great success! We have planned a field trip on April 1st to Storyland. We will have a picnic
at the park and the students will be able to play with bubbles and chalk. Spring is here and its time to learn life
cycles of plants, frogs, and butterflies. We will be planting beans and observing them grow! Please continue to
check folders daily and reinforce all skills that we have been covering in class.
KINDERGARTEN We have two more field trips. We will go to Storyland in City Park on April 23rd and
LaFreniere Park on May 14th. Get ready to smile– on April 17th we will take cap and gown pictures to symbolize our completion of kindergarten. You will receive information on these events soon. Important tests will
be given in Reading and Math at the end of April, make sure your child is ready!
1st GRADE In Language Arts/Reading, we are working on vowel sounds (ou, oo), and r controlled vowels (ar,
ir, er, or). Please continue working on the main idea, setting, and characters whenever reading with your child.
It is important that you listen to your child read daily. All students are expected to be able to answer a new
unseen story independently by themselves, and be able to answer questions about what they read. In Math, we
are adding and subtracting numbers to 20. We are also learning about measurement and telling time and
graphs. Please continue practicing math facts nightly and continue iREADY reading and math.
2nd GRADE It’s hard to believe most of the school year has already passed. In Math, we will be reviewing all
our previous standards from this year. We want to make sure our students have mastered these skills. In
Reading, we will be diving into poetry about famous Americans. In English, we are learning how to write personal narratives. In Social Studies, we will be learning about different cultures.
3rd GRADE We will continue to review multiple skills for the second phase of PARCC. A huge focus of our
review will be on multiplication, fractions, and word problems. The students are antsy to finish reading Because
of Winn Dixie. They have really enjoyed exploring the different characters in the book. Students will take the
iLEAP for Science and Social Studies on April 14th and April 15th.
4th GRADE In Language Arts, the students are focusing on preparing for the PARCC Phase II and the parish
test. They are also working on reading comprehension and text dependent/text specific questions. In Math, the
students are studying fractions. Please have your student study their multiplication facts nightly. The Social
Studies and Science classes are preparing for LEAP in April.
5th GRADE In ELA, students have started reading the book Wonderstruck. In Math, we have been learning
geometry. In Social Studies, we have been focusing on the causes of the American Revolution. The students
have been working extremely hard and we are very proud of what they have accomplished! Even though the
weather is getting nicer and warmer, students need to know we have so much more to do before the end of
school!

ILEAP
The series of annual assessments in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 is known as the “integrated” Louisiana Educational Assessment Programs (iLEAP). The iLEAP is referred to as an integrated LEAP because it combines a criterion-based component, which measures whether a student has mastered the academic
standards, with a norm-referenced component, which provides a percentile ranking of students.
Fourth Grade
LEAP
Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) is the series of annual assessments in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies in 4th and 8th grades. Known as a criterion-based
test, these tests are aligned to the state academic standards and determine whether a student has mastered the content of the academic standards.
