Goddard High School In the fall Goddard High School offers athletic physical education classes for football, volleyball, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, boys’ soccer and girls’ soccer. These classes meet from 1:35 p.m. to 3:05 p.m. when the final bell of the day rings to dismiss all classes. The sports of boys and girls cross country and competitive cheerleading and dance practice after school. Football has a practice field that they do not have to share with any other sport, and have extra field space that they can use for all three teams. The football program has a field house that contains coach’s offices, film room, and separate locker room areas with showers for freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams, and this locker room is separate from regular physical education classes. There is a film room where the teams can watch film and a training room for the athletic trainer. Also in the field house is a weight room, this weight room is used by regular physical education classes during the first three periods of the day, and is also available to other sports and female sports programs as well, provided they schedule a time and are supervised by their coaches. The football program practices from 1:35 p.m. until they are finished which runs past the 3:05 p.m. regular school day final bell. When football season is over they do not practice outside the end of the school day, they finish at 3:05 p.m. Volleyball practices in the main gym and the small gym during volleyball season. They practice from 1:35 p.m. until they are finished which may go past the regular 3:05 p.m. bell. Outside of volleyball season they do not practice outside of the final bell of 3:05 p.m. The volleyball team has a team room but they do not have an up to date shower facilities in their team room and male urinals still exist in the area. During volleyball season the volleyball team has priority over boys and girls basketball teams for gym use during athletic physical education class time. Boys’ basketball have athletic physical education class all year long, during the first semester before the official start of basketball the boys’ basketball team practices in the morning before school for one and one half hours not to exceed their 7.5 hours as NMAA rules. They rotate gyms and weight room times with the girls’ basketball program that also practices before school before official basketball season begins. This practice continues until the official end of volleyball season. The two basketball teams can use the main and small gym during the athletic physical education class when the volleyball team is out of town for a game or tournament if they desire to do so and communicate with each other. The boys’ basketball team has a locker room that has metal lockers for freshman, c team and junior varsity players, and individual wooden lockers with an area for storage and rods to hang things up for the varsity players. This locker room has a storage area, a coach’s office, showers and bathroom stalls. The girls’ basketball team’s locker room was remodeled last year and has a locker room with wooden and metal lockers, a coach’s room, showers and bathroom facilities. When volleyball season is over, the two basketball programs split the gym time according to out of town schedules, and also alternating between morning and athletic physical education class time practice weekly. When the basketball season is officially over the volleyball team and boys and girls basketball teams communicate and rotate gym time and weight room time by working together and communicating with each other. Morning athletic physical education time is also used by the three teams. Boys and girls cross country, competitive cheer leading and competitive dance practice after school or in the evening. The cross country teams practice at a local city park and have locker room availability to them, but not at school. The cheer and dance teams practice in the main and small gym and sometimes in the “little theater”. Cheer and dance do not have separate locker room facilities but may use regular physical education locker room facilities or dress at home and come to school for practice. During the fall dance and cheer should practice in the gyms after school when volleyball is out of town as the basketball teams cannot go past the 7.5 hours of practice during the “off season”. The wrestling program at Goddard High School practices after the regular school day ends at 3:05 p.m. in the wrestling room on the bottom floor of the school building and a weight room next to the wrestling area. There is not a locker room facility with showers in the wrestling room, and students either change and shower in the regular education locker rooms on the first floor or go home. The weight room is available to other sports programs and regular physical education classes provided they schedule a time with the wrestling coach. Both boys and girls soccer have fields that they practice and play on during the soccer season. There are bleachers, bathrooms but no lights or shower facilities on the two fields. Both teams in the fall practice during the 1:35 p.m. to 3:05 p.m., athletic physical education time and past it if necessary. Boys and girls soccer teams must dress in regular physical education locker rooms and then go to their respective fields for practice. Boys and girls athletic physical education class is only offered during the fall semester. When the official season is over they do not practice past the 3:05 p.m. school ending bell. Goddard High School has two athletic locker rooms for males, which house six teams, for football and boys’ basketball and possibly one for female athletics, girls’ basketball. There are two weight rooms at Goddard High School in male athletic facilities but are accessible for female athletes, but there are no weight rooms in female athletic facilities. In the spring semester boys baseball and girls softball replace boys and girls softball as athletic physical education classes. So in the spring, football, volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys baseball and girls softball have athletic physical education classes. Boys baseball and girls softball have their own practice and playing fields so they do not have to share practice time. They may practice from 1:35 p.m. until they are finished during the official baseball and softball seasons. While both Goddard High School boys baseball and girls softball have their own fields they do not have locker room or shower facilities. The student athletes must change cloths and shower in the regular physical education locker rooms. Both the baseball and softball fields do have lights on their varsity stadiums and have rest room facilities available to the public. The junior varsity softball field does not have lights but they play on the varsity field night games if the varsity does not have a night game and varsity practices on the junior varsity field. The boys and girls track teams practice at the Wool bowl, three blocks from the Goddard High School campus. The boys and girls tennis teams practice on the schools tennis courts which are right next to the school on school property. The teams practice after the regular school day, they do not have to share the courts with anybody. The boys and girls tennis teams do not have separate locker rooms and dress and shower in regular physical education locker rooms. The boys and girls golf teams practice at an off campus facility called Spring River. The school district pays a fee that allows the student athletes time on the practice facilities and the main course. Goddard High School does not offer athletic physical education for boys and girls cross country, competitive cheer, competitive dance, wrestling, boys and girls track and field, boys and girls golf and boys and girls golf. There are thirty (30) male coaches and ten (10) female coaches at Goddard High School, ten (10) female sports with twenty one (21) female teams and nine male sports with twenty two (22) male teams.
