The Yoke Really Is Easy
When we read of Christ asking us to take His yoke upon us, the
general view is that we feel He is asking us to carry a burden.
It is not so. The yoke is not a burden to the animal that wears it.
It is just the opposite. It is to make its burden light.
Attached to the oxen in any other way than by a yoke the plow
would be intolerable. A yoke is not an instrument of torture; it is
an instrument of mercy.
It is not meant to give pain, but to save pain. And yet men speak
of the yoke of Christ as if it were slavery.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will
give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I
am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your
souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matt 11:2830).

Thank You
It was wonderful to have a little piece of Arizona and
all of the people that I love with me here in Texas.
Thank you to everyone for my very precious gift.
In Christ, Peggy Battagliola
A quaint inscription was found on a gravestone in
an old British cemetery not far from Windsor
Castle. It read:
Pause, my friend, as you walk by;
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you will be.
Prepare, my friend, to follow me!
A visitor read that epitaph and added these lines:
To follow you is not my intent,
Until I know which way you went!
That is a good thought, isn’t it? Where are you
going when life ends?
Part 3 of 4
Question: I’m interested in the many different ways that the Bible has influenced our thoughts. I understand that many
expressions we use like “am I my brother’s keeper?” and “an Eye for an Eye,” come from the Bible. I think I’ve read these
in the Bible before, but what are some other expressions common to our day that have their origin in the Bible?
Answer: Judas (or “kiss of Judas) Luke 22:47 While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one
of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. The disciple of Jesus who betrayed him for 30
pieces of silver. Used today to talk about someone who is a betrayer or traitor.
Judge not that you be judged Matt. 7:1 “Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
We use the expression to mean that one should not judge another harshly, or in any manner, Jesus was indicating the kind of
judgment that would censor another.
Last shall be first Matt. 19:30 “But many who are first will be last; and the last, first.
Those who prosper now through wicked means will on the day of judgment receive their recompense while those who suffer
for living righteously will receive their reward.
A leopard cannot change its spots Jer. 13:23 “Can the Ethiopian change his skin Or the leopard his spots? Then you also can do
good Who are accustomed to doing evil. Can a human being change his basic nature?
Let him who is without sin cast the first stone John 8:7 But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to
them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” No one has the right to judge another.
Let the dead bury their dead Matt. 8:21-22 Another of the disciples said to Him, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my
father.” But Jesus *said to him, “Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead.” We use this express when given a
frivolous excuse.
Lion shall lie down with the wolf Isaiah 11:6 And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young
goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them. When natural enemies are at
peace with one another.
The Love of money is the root of all evil 1 Tim. 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it
have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. When you trust in riches, and all your time is
spent trying to acquire more, evil will abound.
Love your neighbor as yourself Matt. 22:37-40 And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH
ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ “This is the great and foremost
commandment. “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ “On these two
commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” A trick question leads to a significant spiritual truth. God’s desire
is for all to treat each other with love and respect. We are to treat others as we would God.
Man does not live by bread alone Matt. 4:3-4 And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that
these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE,
BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’”
Manna from heaven Ex 16:35 The sons of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate
the manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan. The expression “manna from heaven” is not found in the
Scriptures, but is an allusion to the provision of God for the children of Israel while wondering in the wilderness. We use the
expression to refer to an unexpected good that comes our way……especially money.
