Dear Teachers, As some of you know, we have a very active Girls

Dear Teachers,
As some of you know, we have a very active Girls Scout Brownie and Junior
Troop right here at CESJDS, with girls from grades 2 through 4 participating.
Our program includes the traditional badge work, as well as community and
social action programs. Last year we supplied an entire meal for the
women at Thrive DC after learning about hunger and homelessness, and
what we can do to help in our community. Over the past several years we
have also supplied Girl Scout cookies to soldiers through the Wounded
Warrior Project and Walter Reed, pediatric cancer patients at Children’s
National Medical Center, residents of the Jewish Foundation for Group
Homes, and the families at Children’s Inn at NIH. This year, our troop has
donated school supplies to kids in need and our “Mitzvah Cookies,” Girl
Scout cookies donated by our customers and our Scout troops, are once
again going to the Children’s Inn.
Girl Scout cookies are not only our yearly fundraiser, but also a way for the
Scouts to learn about everything from how businesses work to handling
money and making change. Once again this year, I asked the girls to not
solicit teachers directly to buy cookies as I did not want to create any
awkward situations. We do have a way for you to support ALL of our
Scouts and both of the troops by buying through our virtual cookie booth.
Any cookies that you buy will be divided equally among our Scouts in terms
of accumulated sales for incentives. I believe that this is truly creates a winwin situation.
The Girl Scout cookies offered this year are:
Thin Mints- a chocolate and mint wafer cookie covered in chocolate
Samoas- a round vanilla cookie with a layer of caramel and topped with
coconut and a drizzle of chocolate
Tagalongs- a shortbread cookie topped with a dollop of peanut butter and
then a layer of chocolate
Trefoils- a traditional shortbread cookie
Do-si-dos- two peanut butter cookies with peanut butter filling in the
middle
Savannah Smiles- a lemon shortbread cookie covered in powdered sugar
Cookies are $4 a box. If you would like to support our Girl Scouts without
the calories, you can donate boxes of cookies to our Mitzvah Cookie
recipient, the Children’s Inn. They are also $4 and box and we will select a
variety of cookies and deliver them directly to the Children’s Inn at the
conclusion of our sale.
Process to purchase cookies:
Please send an email to [email protected] with your name,
email, the kind of cookies you would like and the quantity. I will deliver
your cookies the next day and will meet you in the teacher’s work room
(where the mailboxes are) at the end of the school day, or at another
mutually agreed upon time. All checks should be made out to: Brownie
Troop 6746. Cash is accepted as well.
Thank you all so much for supporting our Girl Scout program. Please do not
hesitate to contact me with any questions at [email protected].
Yours in Scouting,
Joyce Kammerman
