The evolution of an effective pedagogy for teachers using the interactive whiteboard in mathematics and modern languages: an empirical analysis from the secondary sector. Learning, Media and Technology, 32(1), 5-20. Starting situation The students in this class have a limited notion of fractions. They do have some experience with the empty number line. The teacher wants them to play the Landry Line applet game in an interactive, whole-class teaching setting using the Interactive Whiteboard. Task description The task discussed in this clip comes down to hanging socks on a laundry line. Each of the socks contains a fraction. The socks dry best when they hang on the laundry line in their natural order. So the task is to hang an additional sock in an appropriate position. Clip description The teacher invites one of the students to add some socks to the laundry line. When a sock with fraction ¾ appears, which should be on top of the sock with 6/8, the teacher asks the pupil to stop and stressed the fact that we need to be sure about its position. Transcript Or 1/3 2/7, I hear 1/3 2/3 In front of 1/6 No Yeah, yeah Ooh Ho stop, let it there for a moment. 3/4 At 6/8 Yes, but we need to be sure. No, no! Ooh
