5.7B Changes to Land Student Expectation
Clark 2016-2017
The student is expected to recognize how landforms such as deltas, canyons, and sand dunes are the result of
changes to Earth’s surface by wind, water, and ice.
Essential Questions that students will be asked





5.7 Overarching Question - In what ways has Earth’s past affected what we experience in the natural
environment?
Essential Question: What are the natural processes that cause the surface of the earth to change?
What are some different forces that can change the Earth’s surface?
How can you describe and identify landforms like deltas, canyons, and sand dunes?
How is wind, water, or ice involved in the formation of these landforms?
Key Concepts that need to be understood to answer essential questions



Wind, water, and ice can change Earth’s surface.
Sand dunes form when wind-blown sand builds up. Deltas form when water-born sediments are
deposited at the mouths of rivers.
Canyons form when moving water cuts through the Earth’s surface.

Writing- WRITE about both of these types of changes. What kind of time do you think they take to make the
changes? What differences would the height or speed of the waterfall make? What changes do you think
occur further downstream?
