Name: Mr. Harris Advanced Placement U.S. History Summer Assignment 2016 Directions: Please read Chapters 1-4 (pages 1-119) in your textbook – The Enduring Vision. You will be required to outline chapters 1 through 4. Outlines for each chapter should be at least 4 pages (front and back) for a total of 8 pages in length (hand written). If you do not know the proper form of an outline, please see me before the summer. In addition, you are to answer the attached questions in full paragraphs (no less than a page hand written). This assignment will be collected the first day of school (absolutely no excuses) and you will be tested on Chapters 1- 4 (Friday, first week of school). The effort put into the outlines and questions will be reflected on your exam. Since you will be handing in this assignment the first day of school, please make a copy of it if you want to study from it for your exam. Remember: Nothing should be typed. All work must be hand written and NEAT. You are to work independently on this assignment! (Will count as a major assignment). No students should have identical outlines or answers to the questions. In addition: Please fill out the accompanying map of the US. Make sure you know all the states and their capitols. You may abbreviate to fit on map, but make sure you know how to spell each state and capitol. Also, fill out bordering countries and oceans. You will be tested on this information, as well. Please do not wait until the last minute to complete. Manage your time appropriately throughout the summer. (A typical assignment during the year will consist of a chapter per week, an outline, and several questions). Please note: If you choose not to complete this assignment and “drop” to SCALE U.S. History, you are responsible for all SCALE summer work. Contact an administrator over the summer if you have any concerns. Also, you can only “drop down” to SCALE U.S. History during the summer. Once the school year begins you must “drop” to Honors or Regents American History. I will be periodically checking my school e-mail over the summer. If you have any questions, let me know. [email protected]. I will get back to you as soon as possible Have a great summer! See you in September. 1. Compare the experiences of the first English settlements: Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth.
