How to Join the Library
Anyone who lives in the Jericho Union Free School District may become a library member. A photo identification and a second identification indicating home address are required (driver’s license, utility bill, etc.).
You may check out three books until the Library card is received in the mail. A yellow Preschool Program
Registration card will be given to children from birth to 4 years of age. Children may have a library card
when they are five years old. The child must be accompanied by a parent who shows the correct identification and proof of the child’s age.

It is a not-for-profit community hospital and part of the North Shore/LIJ Health System. The community
is presently protesting North Shore/LIJ’s plans to close the hospital. There is a proposal to make this an
ambulatory care unit and E/R only. However, it remains a full service facility for the forseeable future.

There are 56 School Districts in Nassau County. They all vote annually for board members and budgets.
This year every district will vote on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. The school districts set regulations for voting
under the parameters of the Education Law. All appeals should go to the Commissioner of Education.
There are 54 public libraries in Nassau County. Libraries whose budgets are voted upon by the public set
their own date for voting within the time period required by state law. Check with your local public library
or call the Nassau Library System at (516) 292-8920. The Jericho Public Library votes with the Jericho
School District (Tuesday, May 19, 2015).

Senior Passes
Nassau County Senior Citizen Leisure Passport: Nassau County residents 60 years of age and over are
eligible. Application must be made in person with proof of age and residency. The fee is $25 and the passport must be renewed every three years. There is no additional fee for renewal; however, the full fee must
be paid to replace a lost or stolen Passport. Applications are available at any county park such as Cantiague
Park on West John Street in Hicksville. For other locations and hours call the Nassau County Department of
Parks at 572-0200.
America the Beautiful Senior Pass: This federally issued card entitles U.S. citizens, age 62 and over, entrance into any National Park. It also entitles the holder to a 50% discount on any fees for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and specialized interpretive services at federally administered areas. The cost of a Senior Pass is $10 and is valid for the lifetime of the pass owner. A card may be
obtained by applying in person, with proof of age and residency (photo identification may be requested) at
any federal recreation site such as the Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, 20 Sagamore Hill Road, Oyster

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site

Built by Theodore Roosevelt in 1884, this was his permanent home and was often referred to as the “Summer White House.” The house is undergoing a rehabilitation project and guided tours have ceased until
the construction is complete. The areas open to the public are the Visitor Center, the Theodore Roosevelt
Museum and the park grounds. Sagamore Hill is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
