bookmark, September, 2012 President’s Message By Amy Rominiecki, NJASL Presisdent It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to NJASL’s new Bookmark! The Bookmark team, headed by Editor Janet Clark, has worked tirelessly to give you this colorful, multi-media publication. Every month in your email in-box you will receive news about New Jersey school libraries and librarians, activities, library-related videos and podcasts, technology trends, books and publishing, intellectual freedom issues, legislation, continuing education opportunities, and awards and grants. If you would like to submit an article, please contact Editor Janet Clark at [email protected]. We would also like to thank Pat Morris and Bev Siti for their wonderful work with Bookmark over the last several years. Their foundation and guidance were the stepping stones upon which we continue to build Bookmark. Pat has also provided us with an insightful article in this edition to reminisce about her years as Editor. I am excited by the goals NJASL has set forth to serve your needs, wants and concerns during this upcoming year. NJASL is going to continue the public relations campaign of the CISSL Study of New Jersey School Libraries results through video, press releases and other marketing materials. Our Professional Standards Committee will continue to align ISTE’s NETS & AASL’s Standards for the 21st Century. We will also work on establishing a committee to support new/returning school library media specialists. Finally, we will provide you with numerous professional development opportunities throughout the year. Stay tuned for more information on those upcoming activities. Finally, Pam Gunter, President-Elect and Annual Conference Chair, and her committee are putting together a fun-filled, informative annual conference, which will take place on November 29-December 1. The workshops we will be presenting are timely and will relate directly to your practice. Please go to http://www.njasl.org/FallConf to register for the conference. It is my honor to serve as your 2012-2013 President. I am both energized and inspired by this great challenge. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
