I am looking forward to seeing many parents around the school tomorrow as positive communication takes place between parents and teachers. Students will be dismissed at 11.45am for interviews to take place. GREAT TO SEE STUDENTS TAKING UP THE CHALLENGE TO PUSH THEMSELVES It was heartening to see nine students take part in the Year 6 Science Challenge set by Mrs Neal (Science Teacher). Seeing self motivated and self disciplined students CHOOSING to extend their learning is very gratifying. Well done students and thanks Mrs Neal for setting the challenge. Different Science Challenges are coming for other year levels over the course of the year. SCIENCE AT SCHOOL EVENT: PRE PRIMARY TO YEAR 3 STUDENTS The WA Science Understandings curriculum is organised into four sub strands (Biological, Chemical, Earth and Space, and Physical Sciences). At Jandakot, we coordinate these strands into term blocks even though parts of them may be taught in every term. The strands become the emphasis for Mrs Neal in the science room as well as in class science programs. Our students take part in at least two hours of science each week. To round off our Term 1 focus on Biological Sciences, Mrs Wood has organised an At School Event for the Pre Primary to Year 3 classes at the beginning of next term. The West Oz Wildlife Show will bring a number of Australian native animals to the science room for students to visit and interact with. While there is a cost involved for students to take part, I am hopeful that ALL children can attend to bring their classroom learning into real life. The Parent Information and Consent Form was sent home last week, and is also on the school website under the Notes Home page. Year 4 - 6 students will study Biological Sciences in Term 4 and the At School Event will be organised for them at that time. HAPPY HOLIDAYS I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday after a very busy and productive term. I look forward to many more learning opportunities for students to grow and develop even further in Term 2. Remember our focus is always for everyone to PUSH THEMSELVES to DO THEIR BEST. As most of us are aware next term we run a cross country carnival for the whole school. All our Pre-primary to Year 6 children will be involved. Mrs Cowan is offering extra training for ANY of our Year 3 – 6 children for this event. Training will be on TUESDAY AND THURSDAY mornings at 8.00am (rain or shine). Training will commence in WEEK 2 on 2 MAY. If you are interested in participating, Mrs Cowan looks forward to seeing you at the first session next term. Just like that we are at the end of Term 1! I thought I would take this time to give a little reminder about the chaplain visit request slips that are found in the office. Thank you to everyone who uses this when they want to have an appointment with me. Please remember that if you are coming to talk about friendships, it is important to have followed the school procedures first. For example, have you used the blue hand strategy? Have you spoken to your teacher or the duty teacher? In most cases, following these steps will be effective and you’ll resolve the conflict without assistance from myself. Have a safe and happy holidays and I look forward to seeing you all next term. Toni-Lee Bellaart First Aid Focus - Rooms 9 and 10 were fortunate to have a visit from St John’s Ambulance on Tuesday 28 March. Claire Hajje showed the classes how to respond in an emergency situation where they see a patient that requires assistance. The presentation was interesting and informative. The children now feel confident in how to help if needed.
