HEALTHIER CANTEEN
OPTIONS
Thank you to all who returned our
canteen surveys in our efforts to make the
canteen as healthy as possible, offering
our students nutritious and delicious food
each week.
Thank you to Ms Corrine Martin from Live
Life Well who was a guest speaker at our
last P&C meeting. It was of benefit to all
to hear the importance of developing
whole school strategies that support
physical activity and healthy eating.
Attached to this newsletter is a Five Ways
to a Healthy Lifestyle fact sheet for more
information and ideas.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Birthe Larsen
who is now preparing and cooking
scrumptious home-made choices for our

these new options each week.
Students have been striving so hard to eat
lots of fruit and vegetables in their Crunch
n’Sip time each day too. Well done!

3-6 CAMP RECOUNT FROM MISS AMANDA SELMES
During week 7 students in 3-6 went on a 3 day camp to the Gold Coast accompanied by Mrs Smith,
Miss Selmes and Mr Jones.
Upon arrival at school, all students were very excited for the adventures ahead. The bus trip felt like
it took forever, but we soon arrived at the Gold Coast ready for our first look at the sights from the
top of the Q1 observation deck. Students enjoyed seeing the sights from up in the air and marvelled
at how small everything looked. We then had a walk along the beach and lunch before walking
down for a photo opportunity in front of the Surfers Paradise sign.
We went to our accommodation to get settled in our rooms and get ready for our night out at the
Australian Outback Spectacular. Students were lucky enough to experience a free behind the scenes
tour where they saw the making of the show and got to meet some of the actors and the animals that
were in the show.
While waiting for the show to begin, some of our students displayed great confidence and a sense of
fun as they got up in front a large group of people and did some line dancing!
We finally got to take our seats and enjoyed a delicious meal and a great show. Students enjoyed
seeing the amazing tricks that were performed. We arrived back at our accommodation late and
exhausted after our first exciting day on the Gold Coast.
On our second day, we headed off to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Students were able to pat
a stick insect, galah, lizard and to Mrs Smiths horror a snake! At our pat and chat session. After this
session we went and saw an amazing bird show where a range of birds flew through the audience
including an eagle!
We saw many different animals at Currumbin and enjoyed a train ride around the park.
From here we went straight to our cruise through the Gold Coast canals. While the weather became
bleak on the cruise, students enjoyed looking at the fancy houses and imagined what it would be like
to live there.
After dinner at our accommodation we went and played 5 rounds of laser skirmish! Students loved
the adventure and excitement of this activity and didn't want it to end! They especially enjoyed
targeting the teachers!
After dessert and hot milo with marshmallows, students went to bed to rest for their final day on the
Gold Coast.
Our final day was spent at Sea World. We watched the amusing seal show "Fish Detectives" and the
dolphin show before having a quick look at some of the animals and lunch. After lunch students
were very excited to go on the rides! We managed to get Mrs Smith and Mr Jones to go on the
Viking Flume ride with us and then we split up into two groups , one to look at the animals and one
to go in the rides. Our next ride was the Storm roller coaster. While waiting in line students were
amazed to find out that Mrs Smith was lining up behind us and she was going to get on the ride!
After our exciting ride on the roller coaster we made our way to the Jet Ski ride which was a lot of
fun. We had time for one last show before heading home so we sat down and watched the Jet Ski
extreme stunt show.
After a wonderful time on the Gold Coast it was now time for one last bus trip, home!
I want to thank and commend all the students on the wonderful behaviour during the camp. I
received many compliments from the general public on your behaviour. You should all be proud of
yourselves. It was a pleasure to take such wonderful students on a relaxing and amusing adventure
around the Gold Coast! !
DANCE CONCERT
AT THE AGED CARE HOME
It is wonderful to have such a great relationship with the Urbenville
Aged Care Home. Students regularly visit the residents to
showcase their work and have a chat. Last Monday, students
performed their entire dance concert again for the residents. Such
a lovely morning enjoyed by all. Thank you to Mrs. Kathy
Goldthorpe for organising these visits with our school.
