Cell Analogy Project

Cell Analogy Project
Name _______________________
Period _____ Date ___________
Purpose: Compare the organelles of a cell to the parts of a familiar object or activity
and create an analogy based on function (jobs).
Example: If you compare a calculator to a cell
The mitochondria is the battery because it provides power for all the functions,
The nucleus is the central processing chip because it controls all the information,
The proteins are the numbers because they are what is being produced by the
calculator,
The ribosomes are the buttons because they create the numbers.
Try to be creative and come up with a new idea; however, if you’re having trouble, here are
some ideas to inspire you:
-
A stadium
A city
A game of basketball
A school
-
A garden
A vending machine
A computer
A business
Requirements for the Project:
Rough draft due 9/28/M BOC
Choose how you will display your analogy:




Draw a picture
Make a poster
Create a mini-model
Make a PowerPoint, Prezi, etc
o Digital presentations need to be on a thumb drive, website, Google Classroom
or emailed to [email protected]
o You will NOT be able to log in to your student account for presentations.
Label the following structures and explain how they are represented by your object:
(include all)




proteins
ribosomes
endoplasmic reticulum
Golgi apparatus
-
lysosomes
cell wall/cell membrane
mitochondria
nucleus
You can add extra organelles or structures for extra credit if you would like to.
Your project should be colorful, eye-catching and well explained!
This project is due on Tuesday, Oct. 6th or Wednesday, Oct. 7th at the beginning of
class. Be prepared to present your analogy to the class and explain all of the
structures and functions.
Email me at [email protected] if you have questions.
