NEEDLES
Circular knitting needle (16") in size US
4 (3.5 mm) or size to obtain gauge.
Set of five double pointed needles in
size US 4 (3.5 mm)
OTHER MATERIALS
Removable stitch marker for BOR
Seven stitch markers (for eyelet
increases and decreases)
GAUGE
24 sts and 36 rnds = 4" in St st,
blocked. Take time to save time,
check your gauge.

TAM
With dpns, CO 6 sts and divide evenly on three needles. Place removable
marker on first st (moving it up as necessary) and join to begin working in the
rnd, taking care to not twist sts.
Setup Crown Increases
Rnd 1: K1-f/b in each st – 12 sts.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: *K3, yo; rep from * – 16 sts.
Rnd 4: Knit.
Rnd 5: *K2, yo, pm; rep from * (eliminating last pm and ending at BOR marker) – 24 sts.
Evenly divide sts on four dpns (6 sts on each needle).
Note: Every other marker will be “placed” at needle transition. Skip placing
these markers and use transition as the marker for following increases; replace
markers when switching to circular needle.
Crown Increase Section
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: *Knit to marker, yo, slm; rep from * – 8 sts inc’d.
Rep rnds 1 and 2, switching to circular needle when possible, until there are
184 sts (23 sts between markers), ending after rnd 2.

Rnd 2: *Ssk, knit to marker, yo, slm; rep from *.
Rep rnds 1–2 seven more times (eight times total) – 120 sts (15 sts between markers).
Ribbing rnd: *K3, p2; rep from *.
Rep Ribbing rnd for ¾".
Loosely BO all sts in rib, using a larger needle if necessary to maintain elasticity.
CAP
Work as for Tam until there are 120 sts (15 sts between markers), ending after rnd 2.
Hat Body
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: *Ssk, knit to marker, yo, slm; rep from * – 120 sts.
Rep rnds 1 and 2 until Hat Body section meas 4" or ¾" less than desired length,
ending after rnd 2.
Ribbing rnd: *K3, p2; rep from *.
Rep Ribbing rnd for ¾".
Loosely BO all sts in rib, using a larger needle if necessary to maintain elasticity.
FINISHING
Block to measurements (stretch Tam over a dinner plate), stretching eyelets open.
