54 Queens Road, Leicester LE2 1TU An Introduction to Spanish Wines “I Drink when I have occasion and sometimes when I have no occasion” Miguel De Cervantes, Don Quixote Spain has produced wines for over 3000 years, starting with the Phoenicians and further developed by the Romans. Modern Spanish wines compete with the best in the world. Grapes are grown in a variety of landscapes and climatic conditions, ranging from semi-arid & hot southern regions, to wet northern ones, while in the vast central plains vines have adapted to extremes of climate. The cool Atlantic coastline of the North West, the Mediterranean climate of Catalonia, and the dry arid plains of Central Spain are, literally, worlds apart. As far as types of wines are concerned, Spain produces many varieties, from the generous dry, to extremely sweet, through to the sparkling wines, the rosés and the oak aged reservas and grand reservas. There is a Spanish wine for every occasion and every type of meal. Our wines have been selected through vigorous personal tastings and visits to many of the vineyards over the past few years. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do. So let us raise a glass to the new wave of Spanish wines and winemakers. We could suggest a Galacian Albarino, or perhaps a red Rioja, or a rosé from Navarra, a Cava from Catalonia, a Priorato or Ribero del Duero. Or possibly a Fino or Manzanilla, or.......Enjoy!
