A regional approach to Economic Development
The City of Charles Sturt has adopted
an Economic Development Strategy. The
Strategy recognises that Council must
work with business and government
agencies across Western Adelaide
to grow the local economy. Indeed,
the economy does not stop at local
boundaries and our economy will
strengthen if we adopt a regional and
collaborative approach with business.
To build the economic capacity of the
region Council has established a Western
Business Leaders group. It consists of 40
businesses in sports, recreation, tourism,
health and manufacturing.
Western Adelaide has over $13 Billion
(B) in major projects underway or in the
pipeline.
These projects represent approximately
14% of all SA’s major projects.
Peter Richings, Chair of WBL
Membership
The Western Business Leaders (WBL)
consists of 40 business leaders, the
Chief Executive Officer and Mayor.
The WBL meets three times a year to
discuss issues of major importance to
business.
The WBL is an ‘invitation only’
business leaders ‘peak body’.
Membership includes a wide ranging
mix of Western Adelaide based
businesses and not exclusively in
Charles Sturt.
A fundamental mission for Members
is promotion of enterprise and
innovation to grow local businesses.
WBL recognise that sustainable
economic growth is strengthened
when business leaders collaborate,
are involved in and support economic
strategies that focus on business
identifying issues and solutions.
The WBL initiative is a forum for
local business leaders to share their
collective knowledge to meet the
challenges and opportunities of
future economic growth in a local,
state and international context.
Paul Sutton,
Chief Executive Officer
of the City of Charles Sturt
Aim of Western
Business Leaders
The Western Business Leaders (WBL)
aims to: grow, inform, engage, and
promote solutions for the Western
Adelaide business community.
Specifically WBL will seek to:
• Represent issues to the State and
Federal Government;
• Network with like minded business
groups;
• Advocate for improvement to the
local business environment;
• Comment on relevant Council and
Government policy and issues;
• Monitor implementation of the
Economic Development Strategy;
• Identify issues that Council and
relevant agencies and organisations
should pursue; and
Yes we are a growth Council and we
are open for businesses. Council has
some of the fastest development
approval in the state for: residential,
commercial and industrial projects.
Council is keen to collaborate with
business and tap into your ideas to
promote local jobs and growth.
Our Council is committed to listen,
understand and act on the needs of
business. If the businesses flourish in
Charles Sturt, so will the people and
the community.
I look forward to working with
business to develop new and
innovative ways to grow our
businesses and create jobs for
our community.
• Collaborate with all Councils in
Western Adelaide.
