HIGH ACHIEVEMENT…New Eagle Scout Geoffrey Ko is pictured with his

Earns Eagle Scout Rank
WESTFIELD – Boy Scout Troop
No. 77, sponsored by the Vestry at
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in
Westfield, honored Geoffrey Ko with
the rank of Eagle Scout in a ceremony held on June 24. Geoffrey is
the 81st scout to achieve the rank of
Eagle, the highest rank available in
Boy Scouting, since the troop’s
founding in 1935.
Geoffrey’s Eagle Scout Leadership Service project, benefiting the
Westfield Community Players
(WCP), consisted of installing a
white vinyl fence along the property
line, landscaping to improve the curb
appeal and renovating two outdoor
signs.
He coordinated with Gail Smith,
Director of Facilities at WCP, to begin work by removing the overgrown
bushes and weeds to prepare the
ground for the fence installation. So
many volunteers came to help that
all-around shrubs trimming and removal were done while the fence
panels were put in place.
With professional services donated by Caffrey Tree and Landscape, and plants donated by Williams Nursery and Carolyn Kirkland,
Geoffrey’s project in the aspect of
landscaping achieved more than
originally planned. The “Exit Only”
sign was sanded down and repainted
to hang facing North Avenue, and a
new “What’s Playing” billboard was
constructed to stand on the corner of
North and Edgewood Avenues.
Thanks to a generous discount
from Home Depot, donations of food
and drinks from ShopRite, and materials from Westfield Lumber and
Home Center, Geoffrey had surplus
funds from his project to donate to
the Westfield High School (WHS)
Theatre Department and the WCP.
Geoffrey would like to thank his
family, all who volunteered or donated to his project, as well as his
Eagle Advisor, Dean Roth, and Troop
No. 77 leaders for their encouragement and contributions.
Geoffrey is the son of Wei and Angela Ko of Westfield. Outside of Scouting, Geoffrey has performed in six
WHS theater productions and earned
the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star
Award for Best Supporting Actor as
King Charlemagne in Pippin.
He is a member of the WHS Class
of 2013, Concert Choir and Wind
Ensemble, the National Honor Society and the International Thespian
Society. He will serve as a committee chair for the upcoming YMCA
Model United Nations Conference,
and is a corresponding secretary for
the WHS chapter of the International Thespian Society.
