When are presentations?

How long does my presentation have to be?
Grades K-3: 3—7 minutes
Grades 4-7: 5-15 minutes
Grades 8-13: 8-15 minutes
What should I wear?
Dress neatly. Clothes should be neat and clean. Avoid t-shirts and sneakers, and
pants with holes/tears in them. “Dress the part” for your presentation —
for example, if you are talking about baseball, wear your uniform!
Presenters in grades 8-13 should dress business casual.
What will I be judged on?
PRESENCE:
appearance, voice projection, eye contact,
attitude
PRESENTATION:
introduction, organization, visual aids,
coordination of speech with action, summary
CONTENT:
knowledge of subject, accurate/current
information, lessons taught
What type of presentation can I do?
Demonstration:
Show how a task is done or a product is made.
Show how to make a milkshake, how to build a
model car, or how to groom a pet.
Illustrated Talk:
Present information with the aid of pictures, videos, models,
charts, PowerPoint or other visual aids.
Formal Speech:
Give a speech or recite a poem or monologue from memory.
Performing Arts:
Perform a dance, sing a song, play an instrument, put on a pup
pet show, etc.
1. Choose a topic you are excited about or know a lot about.
2. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
3. Give your presentation an attention-grabbing title.
4. Dress To Impress!
5. Have a strong introduction.
6. Use exciting visuals — photos, videos, props, etc.
7. Make eye-contact with the audience… and don’t forget to smile!
8. Speak LOUDLY, slowly, and clearly — make sure that even the people in the
back of the room can hear and understand you.
9. Don’t forget your summary — remind the room what your main points were.
10. Thank the audience when your presentation is over … and don’t forget to ask if
anyone has any questions!
