A food chain shows how living things get energy. All living things get
energy from food. Animals get energy and nutrients by eating other
animals or plants.

producers.
They make their
own food. They
are at the start
of a food chain.
3. Owls eat the small birds.
Animals are called
consumers.
They don’t make
food. They eat
other plants and
animals.
A predator is an animal that eats other animals.
The animals that predators eat are called prey.
