By Heidi Sheldon, Crafters Corner Contributor Did you know that you can make your own car decals and window stickers with your Cameo and outdoor vinyl? You could advertise your business, or add character and personality to your vehicle! Here are I've included some images of things you can make to decorate your car. The majority of these images were made with outdoor white vinyl - the red truck in the center was made with black outdoor vinyl. For temporary stickers you can use indoor 631 vinyl. The first two decals show a passion for a specific sport or activity. The first one is a silhouette of a dancing girl and says "I Brake for Dancing". The second image is on the back of a pickup truck, and has a silhouette of a mallard duck in front of "I Only Go Duck Hunting". The duck Hunter is white vinyl with a layer of Green outdoor vinyl over it. This can easily be created in the Silhouette software by offsetting the word - adjusting the offset and pulling the two words apart and cutting them separately. These would make great gifts, or just show everyone what your true passion is. The last image on the top is a silhouette of a family - you see a lot of stick figure families around, so I decided to do a silhouette of the family themselves. This would even be cute making a silhouette of each person with an activity they love. https://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview.jsp?agent.uid=111410596... 8/8/2013 Crafters Corner Hot Projects, Volume 33 - 2013 Page 2 of 3 For the first image in the center, I used Oracal 631 indoor vinyl, so it can be easily removed. This is a great idea if you are giving the car as a gift; if it's a gift for a Graduation or another special occasion, you could reference that on the car and still be able to remove it easily. The middle image is a classic red truck with outdoor black vinyl on the door and front sides. Larger images can be cut out in sections, and then you can align the image as you are applying to the vehicle. The next decal is a popular one - it says "I Heart My Honor Student". This was made with white and red outdoor vinyl, and is a great way to show off your child's accomplishments. The first car on the bottom row is my favorite. It was created with white outdoor vinyl, and is a simple flower design on the side doors, but adds so much character and personality to the vehicle. The middle bottom image is hard to make out, but it is a cartoon image of an old man golfing and a cartoon image of an old woman in a rocking chair sewing while listening to her juke box. This would be an idea for an old couple showing off their interests. The last image was created with Oracal 631 removable wall vinyl, and says "Just Hitched!". You could add wedding bells or similar clip art to the window for more design. You want to use application tape to apply the vinyl to the cars. You can use paper or clear, medium or high tack - it's your preference. Make sure that the vehicle is clean, dry and free of any grease or oil. You can use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface. Do NOT use a glass cleaner that has ammonia in it; this can interfere with the vinyl's adhesive. For best application and to avoid bubbles, apply the vinyl to a cool vehicle but not too cold. You do not want to apply to a vehicle that is too hot either - it will make the adhesive stick very quickly and not allow you to work out bubbles. https://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview.jsp?agent.uid=111410596... 8/8/2013 Crafters Corner Hot Projects, Volume 33 - 2013 Page 3 of 3 Now Available: Choose from either 12"x12" sheets or bythe-yard rolls of Oracal Outdoor and Interior vinyl! CAMEO CORNER: Tips & Tricks Have some scrap pieces of vinyl or paper laying around from previous projects? No problem! Just use them to cut small embellishments that you can use in future projects! Cut them to 3"x3" squares, align them all on your Cameo cutting mat, and design small shapes like arrows, hearts, bows, flowers, etc. in your Silhouette software, using the cutting mat guide in the software to make sure each shape stays within each 3"x3" square. Cut them out and there you have elements to use in your upcoming projects! www.crafterscornersupplies.com Visit our new Newsletter Archives!
