President? What did he hope Taft would do?
TR believed that Taft would continue his Progressive
policies. Taft was the Secretary of War under TR and they
were friends. Therefore, TR stepped down but believed his
legacy would go on through Taft.
2. Why do you think George Washington only ran for
two terms and wanted other Presidents to do the
same?
George Washington did not want the USA to
have a King or dictator. In other words, he
believed that power should be limited.
Therefore, he stepped down after two terms.
He wanted to start a pattern of limited power.
3. Why did Woodrow Wilson so easily win the Election
of 1912?
Teddy Roosevelt split the Republican party by
starting the Bull Moose party. This meant the
Republicans were not unified by one candidate.
Yet, the Democrats were all unified and
supported Woodrow Wilson. Therefore, Wilson
easily won the Presidency due to having a full
backing from his party while the Republicans
were divided over Taft and Roosevelt.
