Let us “Shine” Together
2
March 1, 2017
Welcome!
Thank you to the South Dakota AEOP for inviting North Central Area (NCA) members and guests to Sioux
Falls for the 2017 North Central Area Professional Development Days (NCAPDD)! The NCAPDD being held
June 7-9, 2017, at the Ramkota Hotel.
This year, the conference theme, “Networking to Put the Pieces Together,” accurately describes the
importance of this conference to bring together members from our ten states to create a strong and viable
network of professionals. Over the two days together, we will forge new relationships and strengthen
existing ones through informative workshops, business meetings, committee work, and numerous
networking opportunities. We are constantly transforming the way we do our jobs, and this conference
provides the opportunity for you to share your best practices with others, and to learn from them.
You, as members of your local, state, or NAEOP, have the vision, the knowledge, and the experience to
move our associations forward to remain viable and vital to all members. YOU are the greatest assets of all
these associations. It is obvious that we could not be successful without all of your contributions.
As you prepare to attend the NCAPDD, I ask you to set some goals for these two days. Maybe you want to
re-connect with friends from another state. Maybe you are working toward your PSP certificate (or recertification) and will be earning valuable in-service hours. Maybe you want to learn more about NAEOP
and the North Central Area. Whatever your reason for attending, you will find it here!
During the conference, I encourage you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help shape the future of
the North Central Area. It is our goal that the 2017 NCAPDD is a rewarding and memorable experience for
each of you! I look forward to seeing you in Sioux Falls!
Enjoy the conference!

We will take our jigsaw puzzle apart first and learn a little bit about ourselves: our similarities and
differences; our likes and dislikes; our unique qualities; our work habits. Then we’ll learn how our puzzle
pieces fit together with others to create successful relationships in our work places, professional
organizations, and personal lives. Come ready to explore, learn, and create in a most fun and puzzling
way!

I am fortunate to have the privilege to serve NAEOP as the North Central Area Director. This is my third
year, and I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and interacting with the members in the Area. I have been
a member of my local and state associations for 16 years. I have been employed at the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln for 19 years and work in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic
Development. I have been a life-long learner and completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership
Studies in 2012. This has been a wonderful journey, and I continue to study leadership, followership and
parliamentary procedure in my work, professional organizations and personal life.

Born and raised in South Dakota, she graduated with a degree in Business Administration and Paralegal

facilities worldwide for Hasbro. She found her love for the non-profit world when she took the position of
Executive Director for the Great Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross. After ten years of making a
positive difference in people’s lives with the Red Cross, she heard about a positon with Family Connection.
Working with children and families affected by incarceration…she found her calling, her passion, and her
future…she was hooked. Lou and her husband, Roger, live in Wentworth. They have two grown children,
eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They are very active in their community. Faith runs
deep throughout her life. Faith in God, faith in humankind and faith in herself. Family Connection has
allowed all of these to come together for a wonderful mission. www.sdfamilyconnection.org
Lisa Morehouse
Friday
8:15am – 10:15am
Graduating from college with a BA in Elementary Education, Lisa’s career took a detour away from
teaching and into the world of retail management for about 15 years. Deciding it was time to get back
into the education field, she started working for Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, Nebraska as a Bid
Specialist in the Purchasing department in 1992. In 1997, Lisa moved to the Human Resources
department as an Office Manager where she currently coordinates the activities of the HR department.
This work led Lisa to become a 3D member in the local, state and national educational office
professional associations, serving in many capacities, committee member, committee chairmen and
elected offices. Lisa is currently serving as NAEOP President-elect. Over the course of the past 24
years, professional development and association involvement have had a huge impact on her growth at
work and association career. Because of this, Lisa challenges all office professionals to embrace their
opportunities to grow and be involved!
“The Phoenix: Rising from the Ashes”
The Phoenix, a mythical Arabian bird that lives for centuries, dies and rises from its own ashes. Is it
possible for institutions, associations or even individuals to rise where they have fallen? In this fast
paced, interactive session, you will discover tools needed to build your foundation as you develop an
action plan of change and networking opportunities that will help you identify your strengths, as an office
professional and as an individual.

Cassie Ridgeway – Damsel Senior Mentor
As a wife of a SD Highway Patrol Trooper in Brookings, I understand the dangers that are out there,
even in our great state of SD. As a mother of two young children, I have a want and need to be able to
protect them the best I can. With Damsel, I truly feel I am making a difference in lowering the statistics
of those affected by assault. www.mydamselpro.net/cassie

Colette Gross – Damsel Protégé
My older sister, Cassie, introduced me to Damsel and I was sold. As a resident of Sioux Falls, I am all
too aware of the growing crime rate and if I can help lower it even a little bit, I will. I want to empower
every woman to protect herself and those she loves.

We will be breaking into the different areas of an office professional. During this time, we would like you
to pick a topic that will be provided on the table and create a discussion with your group. At the end, we
would like you to share the topic you chose to all office professionals.

“A is for Apple, Appetite, Awesome & Attitude”
Prepare for a fun, interactive session designed to focus on the “real” meanings of some very important
“A” words in our life: Apple, Appetite, Awesome, and Attitude. Be ready to share, laugh, and
learn. Wear or bring something red and receive “A” special surprise.
Officer Ben Gant, School Resource Officer
Friday
6:30pm – 8:30pm
“Be Prepared”
Ben has been with the Madison School District for 3 years, he works with all three schools giving his
attention and detail to each situation that he handles. Ben has a way with people, works hard and
always tries to lift the spirits of those around him. Ben was the first SRO at the Madison School District
and started from scratch, as he has presented a program that is working well for our school. Ben has
created a safe environment, helped create a new updated Emergency Safety Guideline Manual and
headed up the Safety Buckets Program, it was a big task but they are all in place and ready to go. Ben
interacts with the students well; he wants to create a safe environment for Madison Central Students.
SRO Gant will be speaking to us on safety in our schools; how to handle different situations and what to
be looking for. We will have a question and answer period as well as interaction amongst ourselves,
“What to do in Certain Situations”. This workshop could be helpful in that situation of “what if” this
happens.
Working together as a “TEAM”.
Hope you enjoy our sessions!!!
