Using ELMS
with TurningPoint Cloud
The ELMS (Canvas) integration enables TurningPoint Cloud users to leverage response
devices in class to easily collect student achievement data. Very simply one can load a
participant list of students from ELMS into TurningPoint Cloud, and then export
assessment data into ELMS.
This document covers the following tasks:
• Downloading a Participant List
• Using a Downloaded Participant List
• Updating a Participant List
• Exporting a Session to ELMS
Using Canvas with TurningPoint Cloud
Downloading a Participant List from ELMS
1 Open TurningPoint Cloud and select the Manage tab.
2 Click
and select New. The Create Participant List window is displayed.

3 Select Download from Integration and click Create List
The Connect to Integration window is displayed.

4 Select Canvas from the Integration drop-down menu.
Enter umd.turningtechnologies.com, in the Server Address window:

umd.turningtechnologies.com
(Check the “Remember this information” box to avoid entering the server address every time.)
5 Click Connect. The second Connect to Integration window is displayed.

Connect to Integration
6 Enter your ELMS Username and Password and
click Log in.
You will then be prompted with:
“Turning Technologies [UMD] is requesting
access to your account.
Click Log in
Import Participant List
7 Select the participant list(s) from your list of
Canvas courses and click Import.
The participant list will now appear in the left side of the
TurningPoint Cloud dashboard.

Using a Downloaded Participant List
Download a participant list from ELMS into TurningPoint Cloud to track participant results.
Prerequisites
An ELMS participant list should be loaded prior to running the first session.
How to use a downloaded participant list.
1 Open TurningPoint Cloud.
2 Select the participant list you’ve previously downloaded. Then click on either the
PowerPoint Polling or Anywhere Polling panel.
Remember!
An ELMS participant list should be loaded prior to
running a session.
3 Run and save the polling session.
4 Close the polling environment to return to the TurningPoint Dashboard.
Updating a Participant List
Participant lists can be updated with the latest participant information from ELMS through the
export function in Results Manager.
1 Open TurningPoint Cloud and click the Manage tab.
2 Select the participant list you want to
update and click Results Manager button in
the lower right corner of the window.

3 Click the Integrations icon:
The Connect to Integration window is displayed.
4 Select Canvas from the Integration drop-down menu and enter the Server Address:
umd.turningtechnologies.com in the box provided.
5 Click Connect.
6 At the next window, you may need to enter your ELMS Username and Password, and click
Log in.
The Update with Integration window is displayed.

7 Select Update Participant List
Click Update List.
The participant list is updated.
Note: You may now see the following message,
letting you know that some of your students
have not yet purchased a Turning Account. Until
they purchase an account, their session results
will not be exported to ELMS.
8 Click Close.

Exporting a Session to ELMS
Export polling sessions to ELMS via Results Manager in TurningPoint Cloud.
1 Open TurningPoint Cloud and click the Manage tab.
2 Select the appropriate participant list and click Results Manager in the lower right
corner of the window:
3 Click the Integrations icon:
The Connect to Integration window is displayed.
4 Select Canvas from the Integration drop-down menu and enter the Server Address:
umd.turningtechnologies.com in the box provided.
5 Click Connect.
6 At the next window, you may need to enter your ELMS Username and Password, and click
Log in.

7 Select Export Session(s).
8 Select the column(s) to be exported
and click Export.
Note: You may now see the following
message, letting you know that some of your
students have not yet purchased a Turning
Account. Until they purchase an account, their
session results will not be exported to ELMS
9 Click Export.
