Executive Director, Rhode Island Public Health Institute
In 2014, I was appointed Executive Director of the Rhode Island Public Health Institute
(RIPHI). RIPHI is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce health
disparities in Rhode Island and beyond. RIPHI works to advance these goals by
conducting translational research and translating research into public health practice and
policy.
RIPHI is governed by a Board of Directors and is hosted by the Brown University School
of Public Health. RIPHI also has formal partnerships and contracts with the Rhode Island
Department of Health to advance the state’s health policy objectives.
RIPHI’s portfolio includes projects that: address food insecurity; provide fresh fruits and
vegetables in food deserts and food swamps; enhance physical activity in public school
physical education classes; provide HIV and hepatitis C screening, linkage to care and
cure programs; and advance the health needs of sexual and gender minorities.
