Detail and Customer Examples
Continental Code Change to United Code
Existing booking files or PNRs that have segments with Continental Airlines will be changed to the UA
code. The CO segment will be changed as “Unable, Flight not operate” (UN) and the PNR will have a new
UA segment with status code “schedule change confirmed ” (TK).
United will notify the schedule changes of the booking files or PNRs via the regular schedule change
process to the travel agencies. It is highly recommended to review and update the PNRs that have
schedule changes.
The new United Airlines flights should be the same flights and classes of service as the Continental
flights.
Confirmed SSRs with CO,
United Airlines will create the SSRs for the UA segments in their system but will not return the SSR
message to any GDS.
Travelport has done development work for confirmed (HK, KK and KL) CO SSRs changing the CO code
to UA. This applies for confirmed SSR such as Secure Flight Data (DOCS, DOCO and DOCA), CHLD,
PCTC, RQST, NSST, TKNE, etc and confirmed seats.
There will be some confirmed SSRs messages that the CO code will not be changed to UA code because
their format is irregular. It will not be required to re-enter these types of SSRs. SSRs will be retained in
Galileo or Worldspan with CO airline code and UA will store the SSRs in the UA system with the UA
airline code; the service will be provided at the airport as requested on the CO segment.
If the CO SSR is not confirmed, it will be required to re-request the service with a SSR for the new UA
segment(s)
If the Galileo or Worldspan PNR does not display the seat for the new UA segment and a Continental
seat assignment was previously held, it would be required to request the seat as a “generic seat”.
These examples are for illustration purposes.

SSR DOCS, DOCA and DOCO for the UA segment in the PNR in order to issue the ticket.
-
Applicable to Worldspan only. If original secure flight data was added with YY code. The system
will add an SSR DOC item for UA at end transaction when the CO segment is changed to a UA
segment (e.g. when seg with UN status is cancelled and TK segment changed to HK).
-
Issue the ticket
Note: It is recommended to issue all tickets for the Continental itineraries before this change occurs.
After the change occurs, United Airlines’ 016 plate will be used to store fares with itineraries that have
United airlines segments. The Continental Airlines 005 plate will not be allowed to store fares in Galileo
and Worldspan systems in early March of 2012, exact date is TBD.
Using a carrier override with the CO plate at the time of storing the fare or issueing the ticket, the Galileo
or Worldspan system will respond with an error response and the fare won’t be able to be stored or the
ticket will not be issued.
Passive Segments
PNRs that have the CO code as a passive code will not be changed to the UA code.
It is required to remove all CO passive segments with the .XK format (delete/suppress) from the PNR.
Add the new UA passive segment in the PNR.
Cancelling a CO passive may send a message and cancel the UA segment”. If the segment had been
entered as BK in Galileo or MK in Worldspan, a cancel message will be sent.
Frequent Traveler/Mileage Plus
Interactive Mileage Plus with United Airlines will go away with all GDS.
Currently the United Airlines mileage plus numbers have11 digits. With this change, late in the first
quarter of 2012, United Airlines will change all current Mileage Plus numbers to an eight-character
alphanumeric account number, . The Galileo and Worldspan systems have been enhanced to accept this.
2-3 alpha, plus five to six numerics following.
IMPORTANT: Profiles or Worldfiles and Travel Screen updates with the new UA FQTV number can be
done but not activated until March 3
rd,
2012.
UA will accept Mileage Plus numbers with 8 or 11 digits into Booking Files or PNRs until the end of Q2
2012. One mileage plus number per person is allowed in the Booking File or PNR.
Member’s current CO One Pass 8 character account number will become the new UA Mileage Plus 8character account number. It is required to add the CO One Pass 8 character account number as UA
FQTV 8 character account number for the PNR that has UA segments.

If the UA 11 digit FQTV account number is entered in the PNR, the UA system will convert the UA-11 digit
number into UA-8 character number in their system. The UA system will credited the miles to the
corresponding FQTV account. The United system will send a Teletype message with a NO action code to
the Galileo and Worldspan systems. As a reminder that the customer needs to advise the Agency of the
new 8 character number.

Advanced Seat Assignments
CO Segments that have confirmed (HK) seats
The Continental segment will be changed to UA segment.
The United system will retain the confirmed (HK) seat for the United segment.
The United system will not send an SSR message of the confirmed seat(s) for the United segment(s).
Travelport has done development work that changes the CO code to UA code showing the UA seat as
confirmed (HK).
If the Galileo or Worldspan PNR does not display the seat for the new UA segment and a Continental
seat assignment was previously held, it would be required to request the seat as a “generic seat”.
The new United Airlines will not have “Interactive Seats” with any GDS.
The exit row and bulkhead sections will not be available through any GDS, even though they may also be
classified as Economy Plus seats.
UA Code Share Seat Maps
The UA code share seat maps are not available for display in the Galileo and Worldspan systems. The
seat(s) can be requested with the generic seat format as follows:

Changes to United PNRs within 24 Hours of Departure
The new United system does not send schedule change messages to any GDS providers for changes
made to PNRs within 24 hours of flight departure. These changes include, but are not limited to,
Complimentary Premier Upgrades, re-accommodations made due to flight cancellations or delays.
Agencies do have different options for making changes within 24 hours of departure, largely based on
whether or not a customer is checked in. Please note that PNRs may move to airport control up to 6
hours prior to departure for international flights and up to 2 hours prior to departure for domestic flights. In
these situations, changes may be limited and must be conducted at the airport.
Customer is NOT Checked In
Prior to customer check-in, agencies may process changes through Galileo or Worldspan.
Customer is Checked In
When the customer has checked in, United has assumed control of the ticket and there is no current
functionality to “uncheck” the passenger. As a result, agencies have three options for processing
changes:
•
Contact United Reservations. This method is the only manner in which United can guarantee that
changes will be processed successfully.
•
Visit United.com and view the reservation. Through the Manage Reservation function, a customer
may make a selection of changes to the PNR.
•
Change the UA segment(s) in the Galaileo or Worldspan PNR. United will automatically queue
the transaction for internal processing. Agencies may receive a timestamp from United acknowledging
receipt of a change made through a GDS, however this does not indicate that the change has been
accepted and processed.
Upgrades within 24 Hours of Departure
When the United segment(s) has been upgraded outside of 24 hours from departure, agencies will
receive a notification from United and changes can be made like normal. Within 24 hours of departure,
the agency will not receive this notice, which can result in changes being attempted against the wrong
booking class. These requests will be rejected and may result in a passenger’s PNR showing duplicate
segments or other errors. United recommends that when working on a PNR for a customer who is
upgrade eligible within 24 hours of departure, the agency should visit United.com first to verify the
customers status. If a change is required for an upgraded segment, we recommend contacting United to
process the transaction.

Ticketing

Ticketed PNRs with 005 plate
United Airlines’ expectation is to honor all CO (005) issued Electronic Tickets where no changes have
occurred to the itinerary (the CO to UA flight schedule change is not considered a change to the itinerary).
Agencies are not required to reissue tickets for ticketed PNRs issued with CO 005 and where segments
were updated to UA.
CO ticketed PNRs will be check-in ready at the UA kiosk and UA.com.
Continental electronic records (ETR) will be displayed in the Galileo and Worldspan systems for a period
of 331 days from migration date, it is dependant upon the airline host connectivity and database
availability.
Fares
Continental historical fares will be available in Galileo and Worldspan systemsfor 12 months after
migration.
Rapid Reprice and ARNE will not re-calculate the new fare for ticket exchanges and the residual value for
refunds when the original ticket was issued with Continental 005 plate. In this instance, the fare needs to
be quoted manually or contact UA.

Ticket Exchanges
If the itinerary has changes in flight number, class of service, date and/or route, it will be required to
reissue/exchange the ticket.
United Airlines decided all reissue/exchange transactions for tickets issued with CO 005 plate will be
done by United Airlines or apply the following process:
Voluntary Changes.
When the traveler requests an itinerary change after the ticket has been issued it will require a new fare
calculation and ticket.
Option 1
Refund the original 005 ticket with applicable change fees.
Issue a new 016 ticket
Option 2
Travel agent needs to call UA who will exchange the ticket with applicable change fees.

Involuntary Changes
An involuntary reroute situation occurs when the passenger is forced to change the routing, class of
service and/or type of fare from that on which the passenger was to fly.
Option 1
Refund the original 005 ticket without change fees.
Issue a new 016 ticket
Option 2
Travel agent needs to call UA who will exchange the ticket without change fees.
This is the UA policy parameters and requirements.
“In order to process a qualifying transaction, the following requirements must be met:
o Must be a non-refundable ticket validated on CO/005 ticket stock with fare rules allowing for
changes to be made.
o Applicable to BSP markets. For voluntary changes, the value of the new UA/016 ticket
must be equal to or greater than the value of the original 005 ticket, less the change or
cancellation fee (as applicable). For example, on a 005 ticket with an original fare of $400
with a $150 change fee, the new UA/016 must be at least $250. If the fare does not
qualify, the agency must contact United to process the transaction.
o
o
o
Applicable to ARC and BSP markets. If the original Continental fare (less the penalty) is
lower than the new United fare, customers pay the new, higher UA fare.
o
Applicable to ARC US only. If the original Continental fare (less the penalty) is higher
than the new UA fare, agency must sell/issue a UA/016 MCO to retain the full value of
the 005 ticket. For example, if the 005 ticket was $1000.00, minus the $150.00 change
fee; agency refunds $850.00. The customer buys a new 016 ticket of $600.00, the travel
agency must issue the client a non-refundable MCO FOR $250.00 to ensure UA retains
the $850.00.
The traveler name on the ticket must remain the same.
The new UA/016 ticket must be issued within the same ARC/BSP reporting cycle as the 005
ticket refund. Refund the Continental ticket on the CO/005 report and issue the new United ticket
on the UA/016 report.
The transaction may be conducted within the same PNR.
 Please note that the 005 ticket refund and issuance of the new 016 ticket must be conducted in
the correct order (refund first, then issue new 016 ticket) and the agency must close out the
refunded 005 ticket.
 When processed out of order, the refunded ticket may remain live in the PNR, creating potential
issues when the passenger attempts to travel (such as inability to check-in).”

Examples of exchanging a CO 005 non refundable ticket
Applicable to ARC US only
“Exchanging a CO/005 non-refundable ticket
Examples contain fictional fares and fare basis codes
Example One – Fare rules met/class available – Same Fare
Passenger has a $500 round-trip CO/005 ticket booked IAH-LAX-IAH, fare basis QE143KN.
The outbound segment is flown, and passenger wants to change return flight/date.
 According to the fare calculation ladder, the value of the return portion is $250. Change fee is
$150.
 Process the refund of the unused coupon for $100 ($250 fare/taxes - $150 fee).
 Research new availability and fares:
o Minimum stay rules met.
o Q class is available
o Store fare and issue a new UA/016 ticket for $250 (the fare in effect at the time the
original ticket was issued). Note: ticket must be in the same name of the original ticket
as original ticket was non-refundable.
Example Two – Fare rules met/class Not available – Higher Fare
Passenger has a $600 round trip CO/005 ticket booked ORD-IAH-ORD using combination of QE143KN
($250 one way) on the out bound and HE143KN ($350 one way) on the return.
The outbound segment is flown, and passenger wants to change return flight/date.
 According to the fare calculation ladder, the value of the return portion is $350. Change fee is
$150.
 Process the refund of the unused coupon for $200 ($350 fare/taxes - $150 fee).
 Research new availability and fares:
o Minimum stay met.
o H class is not available, but B is.
 Apply 1/2 of the next applicable round-trip fare that meets the requirements of the
original ticket, or a one way. For this record, the original fare basis required a 14 day
advance purchase, so the passenger may buy another 14, 7, 3 or no advance
purchase fare – or an applicable one-way fare.
 The next less restrictive fare is a one-way BA0KY, $500.
o Issue a new UA/016 ticket in the same name of the original ticket as the original ticket
was non-refundable. As BA0KY is a refundable fare – the new UA ticket must be
documented that $200 of the new ticket is non-refundable.
Example Three – Fare rules met/class is available – Lower Fare
Passenger has a $1518 round-trip CO/005 ticket booked IAD-LAX-IAD using BA0GN
The outbound segment is flown, and passenger wants to change return flight/date.
 According to the fare calculation ladder, the value of the return portion is $759. Change fee is
$150.
 Process the refund of the unused coupon for $609 ($759 fare/taxes - $150 fee).
 Research new availability and fares:
o Minimum stay met.
o B class is available, but so is M. The M one way fare is $544 (MA7GN).
 As passenger is meeting the current fare rule which include 7 day advance purchase,
agency may sell the one-way fare of $544.
Issue a new UA/016 ticket in the same name of the original ticket. To ensure that United retains the full
value of the original CO ticket (minus the penalty), agency issues a UA/016 MCO for $65. The ticket and
the MCO must be documented that they are non-refundable – as the original CO ticket was nonrefundable.

Example Four – Change the original flight – Higher Fare
Passenger has a $763 round-trip CO/005 ticket booked LAX-CLE-LAX using UE73KN.
The passenger wants to change the outbound and return segments.
 Process the refund for the full ticket minus the penalty $613 ($763 fare/taxes - $150 fee).
 Research new availability and fares:
 H class and higher are available. The lowest H fare is HA0FY for $707 each way.
o Issue a new UA/016 ticket in the same name of the original ticket for $1414. The ticket
must be documented that $613 is non-refundable – as the original CO ticket was nonrefundable.
As these examples use fictitious fares and fare basis codes, always refer to exact fare rules to ensure compliance.
Individual tax codes are not detailed in these scenarios to keep the examples simple. When the examples quote a
specific refund or new ticket dollar amount, these amounts are inclusive of all applicable taxes to the itinerary.”
MCOs issued with 005 plate with residual values, applicable to the US market.
United has advised that “agency action will be required to process and exchange agency issued, residual
balance CO/005 miscellaneous charge orders (MCO). Currently, agencies may submit eligible CO/005
MCOs to United, which will be exchanged by the airline into UA/016 electronic travel certificates (ETC).
These certificates are redeemed, in most cases, only through United.com and will result in agencies
losing control of the ticket value.
United has developed an alternative option for processing eligible CO/005 MCOs which will allow
agencies to retain control of the ticket value.
The procedure is as follows:
Issue a new, UA/016 ticket in the name of the passenger, the original CO/005 MCO is non-transferrable.

The new UA/016 ticket must be of equal to or greater value than the CO/005 MCO. If the ticket
does not qualify, the MCO must be remitted to United for processing into an ETC.

The name on ticket must remain the same.

If the new UA/016 ticket is refundable, document the following in the endorsement box: $(NonRefundable Value) NON-REFUNDABLE

For example, if the CO/005 MCO has a non-refundable value of $500, the endorsement box on
the new UA/016 ticket should read “$500 NON-REFUNDABLE”

Refund the CO/005 MCO back to the original form of payment

No change fee is applicable.

Document waiver code 7GGBU and the new UA/016 ticket number(s) in the OSI message.

The issuance of the new UA/016 ticket and the refund of the CO/005 MCO must occur within the
same ARC reporting cycle.
These transactions should be handled based on the date of travel and initiated when the customer is
ready to purchase a new ticket. Do not submit MCO refunds prior to new sale being issued.
Alternatively (or in addition to) the option described above, agencies may proceed with the original
procedure of submitting CO/005 MCOs to United for processing into ETCs from March 3:


Request the exchange of a 005 MCO to a UA/016 Electronic Travel Certificate (ETC) by emailing
the e-MCO or mailing the paper MCO as follows:
 e-MCOs must be emailed to the following email address: [email protected]
 Paper MCOs must be mailed to:
United Airlines Inc. - 600 Jefferson (HQJRA – 1651C) - Houston, TX – 77002 - Attn: TA MCO
EXCG Dept.
Please include the passenger contact info (physical address or e-mail) in the request. United will notify
the passenger when the agency is advised of the ETC issuance.
For BSP channel travel agencies, procedures previously communicated by United for handling virtual
multi-purpose documents (VMPDs) continue to apply.”
vMPDs issued with 005 plate
United has advised that “from March 3, 2012 CO/005 vMPDs issued for a residual value due to an
exchange transaction may no longer be used by travel agencies.

All BSPs (except for Canada) – Refund vMPDs through the BSP. United will audit and approve
eligible transactions.

Canada – Submit vMPDs to United for conversion to ETCs via the same process as CO/005 MCOs,
described above.
All vMPDs used as group deposits must be refunded through BSP or local United office and cannot be
used in reissue transactions.”

Refund transactions
After the capability for the original issuance of CO 005 ticket sales is discontinued, travel agents will be
able to fully or partially refund 005 tickets in Galileo and Worldspan systems.
“On September 30, 2012, United will inhibit self-service refund capability in all GDS systems on
outstanding CO/005 passenger tickets. After this time, all refunds on refundable CO/005 tickets and
miscellaneous charge orders (MCOs) along with changes to non-refundable CO/005 tickets must be
handled by United directly.
After September 30, agency-issued CO/005 MCOs may be sent to United directly for conversion to
UA/016 ETCs.
005 Agency-Issued, Residual-Value MCOs
After September 30, agency-issued, residual value CO/005 MCOs may still be sent to United for

Reservations Functionality Changes
Electronic Ticketing
Travelport systems will be updated to inhibit the issuance of any ticketing transactions such as issueing
tickets and exchange transactions with the Continental plate (005). This change will occur begining 01:00
rd
a.m. on the 3 of March of 2012.
Using a carrier override with the CO plate at the time of storing the fare, the system will respond with an
error response:
The Galileo and Worldspan systems will allow to issue tickets with itineraries that have passive segments
with United Airlines with the United Plate 016.
The following Travelport Exchange products are impacted with this change:
Rapid Reprice
Exchange Filling Format
Divide Function
The Split and Divide functionality remains the same and does not change for the Continental Airlines and
United Airlines merger into one airline.
If multiple passengers are under the same name field and multiple divides are done in the same entry, it
is possible that not all record locators(ACKN) will be returned for all new PNRs. It is recommended that
PNRs be built with single name fields so that each PNR will have a new locator (ACKN) assigned
following divide action.
Viewtrip

It is important to communicate this to your customers when applicable.

-Viewtrip e-tkt record will show the Continental ticket number and Continental segments.

segments.
Electronic Ticketing Record (ETR)

-The CO segments will be changed for UA segments.
-The ticket number will remain the same starting with 005.
-The electronic ticket record (ETR) will have the 005 number and the Continental flight(s).
-The status code of the segments of the ticket issued with Continental Airlines plate will not change when

Functionalities and Products that might require modifications from the Travel Agency for the Continental
rd
Airlines (CO) code to United Airlines (UA) code. This may impact Travelport products or 3 party software
or custom development.
Because the Continental Airlines (CO) code will not be used as of the Spring of 2012, the travel agency
needs to make the corresponding modifications in advance.
Client Files or Worldspan World Files that have Continental frequent numbers
United Airlines has advised that they will accept Continental frequent flyer numbers for UA reservations
after the Spring of 2012. United Airlines will provide more details and Travelport will communicate this to
our subscribers.
TravelScreen Plus or Interactive World Files
The Continental code needs to be changed for the UA code in Galileo in the travel screen or in
Worldspan Interactive World Files.
rd
Some Travel agencies have stored Client File or World File data and preferences in 3 party tools, it is
highly recommended to review said Client Files or World Files and Preferences and make the
corresponding changes for the CO code change to the UA code.
Agency Private Fares or Secure Rate Air Fares
Travelport subscribers use the “Agency Private Fare” or Secure Rate Air Fares products to store their
negotiated fares and rules with the airlines, some of these fares/contracts apply with code share flights.
It is recommended to review the the Private fares contract with United Airlines and have code share with
Continental and remove the Continental Airllines code CO from said contract(s).
Galileo Custom Check
Custom Check is a PNR quality assurance tool that allows to create and edit rules ensuring that all PNRs
comply with the Travel Agency or Corporation business standards. These rules might apply for a specific
airline, where the frequent flyer number is in the PNR.
It is recommended to review all the Custom Check rules applicable to Continental Airlines and change
them for UA airlines.
