The Rev. M a u r i c e Woodward, who
h a s b e e n V i c a r o f Barrow f o r
n e a r l y 13 y e a r s moves on t h i s
month t o become v i c a r o f C l a r e
with Poslingford i n Suffolk.
They p l a y e d many o f t h e o l d
favourites - Hustle, F a l l i n g
F e a t h e r s , Mango Walk and Midnight R i f t .
The band i s e i g h t e e n s t r o n g 14 y o u n g s t e r s and 4 s t a f f , and
t h e y have been p l a y i n g t o g e t h e r
Mr. Woodward h a s worked i n t h i s
f o r some 18 months. Mr. Ken
a r e a s i n c e h i s o r d i n a t i o n i n 1958, Fox, a n o r g a n i s e r and member
at Southwell.
He became c u r a t e
o f s t a f f a t R a w l i n s t o l d SVN
of G e d l i n g , Nottingham a f t e r h i s
t h a t t h e band would be a p p e a r o r d i n a t i o n and i n 1 9 6 1 became
i n g on BBC's B l u e P e t e r on t h e
Precentor of Leicester Cathedral
evening o f 4th A p r i l
and a l s o t a u g h t a t t h e A l d e r m a n
Newton S c h o o l s .
He was a p p o i n t e d

Notes
I n 1870 a man known l o c a l l y a s
"Top-Hat" Brown was drowned i n
t h e y a r d o f t h e White H o r s e .
T h i s was c a u s e d by t h e g a t e i n
t h e w a l l o f t h e Farnham p r o p e r t y
n e a r t h e C r o s s c o l l a p s i n g when
a wave o f w a t e r , t h u s r e l e a s e d
swept a c r o s s t h e r o a d and i n t o
the yard o f the inn.
In 1921 t h e b i g f l o o d took p l a c e
on A u g u s t Bank H o l i d a y .
I t did
not d e t e r a c h a r a c t e r named
Tommy S c o t t , who d e s p i t e t h e
h a n d i c a p o f a wooden l e g , rode
t h r o u g h t h e t o r r e n t on a b i k e .
In J u l y 1932 t h e w£.ter swept
r i g h t t h r o u g h t h e windows o f t h e
White H o r s e ; and n e a r t o what i s
now known a s " H a r r y H a l f o r d ' s
Lodge" n e a r Barrow, a bus w i t h
many p a s s e n g e r s b r o k e down,
leaving passengers trapped.
They h a d t h e h a r r o w i n g e x p e r ience of watching waters r i s e
a r o u n d them, a n d p r o b a b l y
f e a r e d t h a t t h e b u s would o v e r turn i n the torrent. Eventually
a p a r t y o f s t u d e n t s from Quorn
H a l l donned swimming g e a r and
towed t h e s t r i c k e n v e h i c l e t o
safety.
