The Moore Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Newton County Arkansas By Smoke (Michael A.) Pfeiffer, Archaeologist Big Piney Ranger District, Ozark-St. Francis National Forests 2008 Ozark National Forest Centennial As are many historic sites on the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests, this site has been recorded with the Arkansas Archeological Survey as 3NW0609. According to the CCC Alumni website, this camp is Company #745, Project #F-24, and organized on 31 May 1933. http://www.cccalumni.org/states/ARKANSAS.html. The project number was assigned by the state. The F indicates a National Forest Project. The camp newspaper was called the Moore Breeze. The camp was located west of Richland Creek in Jones Township, in SE corner of Newton County and north of the communities of Ben Hur and Moore.
