November Preschool Themes October 31-Nov 4th-Spider’s then… Ship Shapes on the Cape November 7-10th (11th Veteran’s day no school) – Cape Cod Harvest November 14-18 Thankful for Cape Cod November 21st and 22nd- Our Feast!! (sharing and Caring) Hello All, Much has happened in the preschool room since the beginning of October. We are rapidly learning each other’s names. We had a well attended Parent’s night! We also practiced our fire drills and visited with the Orleans fire fighters! Some of us enjoyed beating leaves to see how moisture and color are still inside some of our plants before they dry out and turn brown. We weighed apples ,pumpkins and acorns.! We truly live in a wonderful place and there is nothing so familiar to children as where they live and what they see every day! So we will talk about Cape Cod. What town we live in and what is special to our town. Parks, Beaches… etc.. You may even find that YOU have homework with your child! (We won’t make it too difficult I promise) We will continue in the second week of Nov. to discover what food grows here, what some local occupations are that involve local agriculture. The last full week we will journey through Cape Cod now and Then,, Fish, Cranberries, Clams, Asparagus, Turnips, Salt Etc. As we delve into these themes we will continue to integrate skill building into our daily work. It will be a fun month culminating in a FEAST that we share with the Downstairs Children. We each cook something and then eat a shared snack together!… Some of the Skills we Will be working on: Fine Motor: Cutting, Gluing, Stringing small objects. Using Tweezers, Sciccors, and Kid Knives! Social Skills & Dramatic Play: How to kindly ask others to Stop, kind words and actions, ways to help our friends feel included. Group dramatic play in our ship/boat, pretending to be fishermen, clammers, farmers..How a community works together to provide food and shelter. Math/Science: cooking, growing, comparing root veggies and above ground veggies,Salt in our water.. we can’t see it but it’s there, What can salt do? Why is it important? Floating and Sinking, How does a pumpkin look when it rots? What happens to it? Observing our new Pet.. Patches the G.P. Graphing where we live, our favorite beaches.. etc… Language: Dictating our favorite things we like to do on cape cod, Heavy-Light, bumpy- Smooth, as well as always learning new lyrics to familiar and also new songs.. We will learn the Cape Cod Kids Sea Shanty! And hopefully have some new Enrichement visitors.. We will keep you posted!
