ARGENTINA
Quick Facts
Location: In the middle of South America and running
south more than 2,000 miles. Argentina is the secondlargest country in South America. It is as large as the U.S.
east of the Mississippi River.
The Land: The Andes Mountains separate Argentina from
Chile, to the west. The center of the country, the Pampas,
is a flat, grassy prairie. The southern area, Patagonia, is
rocky and barren.
Weather: The northern part of Argentina is subtropical,
like Florida. The farther south you go, the cooler it gets.
Patagonia has cold, long winters. Penguins even live there!
Because Argentina lies below the equator, the seasons
are the opposite of ours. Summer lasts from December to
March, and winter from July to October.
