Q1. Give two reasons why Babur invaded India.
Babur invaded India because he was attracted to the wealth. Secondly, the Sultanate was
under the rule of Ibrahim Lodi who was extremely unpopular and there was political chaos.
Babur was invited by Daulat Khan, the Governor of Punjab and Rana Sangha of Mewar to
depose Ibrahim Lodi.

Firstly, Babur’s army had better weapons and firearms. Secondly, Babur was a military
genius and carefully deployed his artillery. The Lodi army had never seen guns. Also, the
elephants in the Lodi army panicked at the sound of the guns and trampled their own army.

Akbar abolished the pilgrim tax and the jiziya tax which only non-Muslims had to pay. He
started a new religion called Din-i-llahi. He did not force people to convert to this religion.
He participated in the festivals of other religions and did not differentiate between Muslim
and non-Muslim subjects.
