CURRICULUM
What an exciting week we will be having in Nursery with visits to Selly Oak Library and lots of new
resources and activities to explore!
We are very busy in the Creative room exploring clay using our fingers and tools to squeeze, squash,
twist, poke and roll, I wonder what we might create? We are still enjoying drawing pictures of
ourselves thinking about the shape of our face, colour of our eyes, hair and skin! We are painting using
cotton wool buds to create a new and interesting effect and developing our storytelling skills with the
Disney characters.
In the Maths room we are continuing to develop our knowledge of numbers through counting and
rhymes. We are exploring with number baskets and seeing if we can match numbers and objects. The
ladybirds have lost all their spots and need help to find the correct number of spots they have lost
and children will be digging for numbers in the sand! As it is ‘Children in Need’ we are thinking about
superheroes and using our imaginations to create some magical stories.
In the Language room we are thinking about our holidays and we want to hear about all the lovely
activities the children have been doing with you!! Children will be mark making about these lovely
experiences. We have loved painting ourselves and now we will be exploring faces and expressions with
play dough faces and people jigsaws. We are continuing to extend our camping storytelling and role
play!
We have just had bonfire night and the children will be talking about the sounds, colours and
experiences of fireworks creating their very own firework painting. The water tray is full of soap,
bubbles, glitter, gems and other magical objects to whisk and pour; maybe we will make superhero
potions? Superhero’s need dens so we will be very busy creating dens with bricks, material and pegs!
Outside the fireman and superhero’s take over! Children will be using the fire station, hats and
hoses to role play and extinguish all the fires! They will be building and creating their own fire engines,
with tyres, steering wheels and crates. The superhero’s will be making their dens and dancing to their
very own super hero music!! We will even be searching for superheroes as they hide around the
playground.
CHILDREN IN NEED DAY
On Wednesday 12th November we will be celebrating and raising money for Children in Need. Children
are asked to come to Nursery dressed as a superhero and to pay a minimum of £1 donation. During the
day there will be lots of fun activities linked to Pudsey Bear.

HOME LEARNING ACTIVITY FOLLOWING THE IMPACT SESSIONS
Animal Movements
Take the animal pictures from the Impact Pack or use your own animal pictures from home and ask
your child to help you to place them in different corners/places in either a room or the garden or even
in the park. Ask your child to stand in the middle and when you call out the name of an animal he/she
can move as quickly, as slowly etc as they can to that picture. Can they move towards the picture in
different ways, twirling, hopping, jumping or even the way that animal would move. Let your child do
the calling and you can have fun doing the movements too and help to role model ideas for your child.
PRE-WRITING IMPACT SESSIONS
Our next sessions are starting soon and it is really important an adult attends for every child. Please
remember that you can attend any session even if it isn’t your child’s Nursery day. All dates are in
