2016-2017 Double Degree Fact Sheet for Undergraduate Students Double Degrees at Bocconi Double Degree Programs Bocconi Universiy has developed 25 Double Degree Programs in cooperation with prestigious Universities in the EU, Russia, India, North and South America, China and Australia which allow around 200 students (including both incoming and outgoing) to take part into this program every year. Students completing Double Degree and Joint Degree programs will receive both a Bocconi Bachelor Degree and the equivalent degree from a partner institution. The Global Alliances Office This is the office that is in charge of developing Double Degree agreements and it acts as the primary point of reference at Bocconi for DD Partner Schools. Moreover, it is the main contact point for DD students prior to their arrival at Bocconi. After you arrive at Bocconi the Global Alliances Office will introduce you to all the other relevant offices in order to direct you to the most appropriate contact. DD officers are also available throughout the year to assist students with major problems or specific issues related to the Double Degree Program. Double Degree students are considered regularly-enrolled Bocconi students and they have to comply with all Bocconi rules and regulations but some exceptions may apply. You will have an individual tailor-made study plan developed in accordance with the Double Degree agreement signed between the home and host institutions. Exams already taken at the home university will be matched with the ones required by the Bocconi study plan recognizing the relevant activities which students have already completed at their home school. The final recognition process and study plan approval will be carried out by the Global Alliances Office, taking into account the grade transcript for the courses taken at the home school and the Bocconi study plan’s mandatory requirements (1st year core courses, 2nd year core courses, 3rd year elective courses, 2 foreign languages, final paper). Your study plan will be subject to the approval of the Bocconi Bachelor Program Director. Once the study plan has been approved by the Program Director (July), you will be notified via email and no changes will be allowed. Grades of courses taken at the home school will be converted into Bocconi grades (a score out of thirty with a passing grade 18/30 or above) and a conversion table will be sent in July together with your Bocconi Study Plan. DD students are exempted from paying the University fees and penalties with the exception of the graduation contribution of 215 Euros which is due when registering for the graduation session; DD students cannot apply for Bocconi scholarships. You will receive information about services, facilities and welcome activities during the month of July along with your study plan and information on how to choose elective courses. Please remember that, as a Double Degree student, you are required to check-in at the Global Alliances Office when you arrive. The first foreign language will be English (exit level: C1 Business for non-English native speakers) and French, German or Spanish (exit level B2 or C1 for English native speakers); for non Italian native speakers the second language will be Italian (minimum A2 exit level for non Italian native speakers) while native Italian speakers can decide between French, German and Spanish (exit level B1 or B2). If a student has more than one native language, he/she must choose one mother tongue language for all the studies. The Bocconi Language Center recognizes some international language certificates. Please check the list of these on the Bocconi website at www.unibocconi.eu/languagecenter Bocconi organizes an ad hoc Italian language course throughout the first semester as preparation for the Italian exam. Course Load: The Bocconi University credit system is ECTS equivalent: 1 Bocconi credit corresponds to a 25-hour workload (8 of which are lecture hours). The average quantity of work required for a full-time Bocconi student is generally set at 60 credit points per year. Courses last approximately 11 weeks per semester. Please note that a full semester course-load is 4 courses. Specific rules apply to Double Degree students according to the Learning Agreement signed by the Double Degree partner institutions (home and host schools). Final Paper: Bachelor students (including DD students) are required to write a Final Paper (worth 3 credits) at Bocconi according to the rules set in the DD Agreement between Bocconi and the home school. Once the DD student has arrived and enrolled at Bocconi, he/she can contact the professor responsible for the Bocconi Bachelor who will provide assistance regarding the choice of the final paper topic and the identification of a Supervisor. Please remember that all Bocconi students, including DD students, are required to pay a graduation contribution of 215 Euros (which covers the administrative costs of the graduation process) in order to complete registration for the graduation session. Please Note: After enrolling at Bocconi as a Double Degree student, you will not be allowed to change your status to Exchange student or free mover student. More information: www.unibocconi.eu/schoolsprograms Class Format: Courses are mainly lectures. Depending on the subject, case discussions and presentations in class may also be used. Usually class attendance is not mandatory but it is highly recommended: notes taken during lectures are relevant for the final exam. For non-attending students, different examination methods apply. Class Size: Classes are normally made up of between 20 and 100 students. Grading: Grading is essentially based on the result of the final exam. In some courses, the final grade might be the result of different elements such as group work, assignments, essays and class participation. Always clarify with the lecturer the exam rules as well as the weight of class discussions and assignments (e.g. group work) on the final grade. The grading scale for exams is a number out of thirty and a passing grade is 18/30 or above. Examinations: The exam format may vary: though exams are usually written, some courses may have an oral exam; the format might also include assignments and midterm exams. Courses taught in English usually offer written exams. Exams must be taken during the official examination sessions during the following periods: January/February and May/June. Registration for exams must be completed at Punto Blu (yoU@B electronic Agenda) at least four working days prior to the exam date.
