AWC Communiqué Acton Women’s Club, P.O. Box 369, Acton, CA, 93510 actonwomensclub.com June 2015 Our meal was delicious and service was excellent. Great job coordinating the lunch menu with Distinctive Catering, and salad, dessert and service with VHS Culinary Arts! Everything was delicious, service was delightful, and the students looked fantastic in their new aprons! Thank you to the Food Committee – Karen Gordon, Debra Davis, Karen Main, Mary Sue Moody, and Gay Robbins. Beverage Service is a big job that always seems to come together seamlessly. Thanks to Lee Jennings, Yolanda Aiello, and Lisa White for our refreshing beverage service. Also, thanks to Lee Jennings for assisting our club to purchase new glass dispensers and coffee urns which were used for the first time at this luncheon. 2015 Scholarship Recipients – Nicole Lunde, Erin Cremin, Justin Bates, Malia Skjefte, Amanda Perna “Learn from the Past…Live for the Future” 47 Annual Scholarship Luncheon th The various committees for our Spring Luncheon put together a fabulous event! From the moment guests entered Acton Community Center, compliments began. The pretty green linens, with silver accents, and lovely twinkling silk flower centerpieces, were very classy. Everyone asked who created the wall art – the tree surrounded by leaves and wonderful quotes capturing the essence of the theme, “Learn from the Past…Live for the Future.” The Decorating Committee did an outstanding job – Jackie Gumbert, Karen Main, Sherlene Houston, Sherri Woodson and Vicki Taylor. Thank you to all members who came to help set-up Tuesday evening, especially VHS Service Club Students. The Scholarship Committee did a tremendous job establishing a new process. The committee met three times; initially to set a deadline and establish criteria and a rating system, then to divide all eligible applications for verification of facts, and finally to evaluate and vote. Many thanks to Joann Wayland, Kelly Teno, Sheri Mercier, Yolanda Aiello, Tina Steibel, Cari McLane, Vicki Taylor and Debbie Gatling for the many hours dedicated to this committee. Thank you to Kathy Milligan for her assistance getting our plaques updated and engraved, and to Kathleen Larsen for printing beautiful award certificates for our scholarship winners. Our raffle and silent auction were very successful due to the many efforts of AWC members gathering support from generous local businesses! The Raffle Committee did a wonderful job organizing and displaying items. Kelly Teno, Sheri Mercier, Sandy Mulcahey and Victoria Pique called the raffle and silent auction with skill and grace. Teen Miss Acton, Katie Miller, was very helpful to the Raffle Committee and sold many shopping spree tickets. Entertainment was very simple, yet so touching! Sharon Roberts sang two perfect songs; one a prayer (so moving, nary a dry eye) and the other “Happy” (had everyone clapping along). Sheri Mercier and Joyce Betts shared inspiring letters from past scholarship recipients. Our fabulous sound tech and DJ, Ceil Miller, did a wonderful job providing nice music and the sound assistance for our event! Our luncheon programs, lunch and spree tickets are always printed so professionally! Thank you very much to Sheri Mercier for printing our beautiful programs, and to Kathleen Larsen for printing all of our tickets. VHS Culinary Arts Students & Instructor Ms. Coo Joann Wayland and Jane Klosterman did a wonderful job coordinating the disbursement and sales of lunch and spree tickets. Thank you to Tina Steibel, Joy DeLeo, Vicki Taylor, and Linda Bundy for helping at the door with tickets sales, welcoming and seating guests. Jackie Gumbert served as Event Coordinator. With her planning, our setup and luncheon event ran so smoothly. Hats off to Jackie! All AWC members are so talented and supportive. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves, due to your tremendous efforts!
