Stay Fearless, “Cool” and Exuberant! Emma Emma S. Shupe, TAFCE WR President ~~~~~ “Nothing splendid was ever created in cold blood. Heat is required to forge anything. Every great accomplishment is the story of a flaming heart.” —Arnold H. Glasow ~~~~~ TAFCE Western Region provides an annual scholarship of $300 to 4-H Line and Design Camp which “engages children through experimental ‘hands-on’ learning projects and classes. It encourages youth who are entering grades 6-12 to discover their own creative abilities and explore opportunities to develop skills that will be long lasting and perhaps contribute to profitable income.” This year’s camp is July 7-9 at UTM. We would like to congratulate this year’s Line and Design Camp scholarship recipients: Terica Cole, Madison; Molly Wallace, Henderson; and Salena Perry, Fayette. TAFCE WR BOARD UPDATES CYNTHIA SUMMERS, VICE PRESIDENT FOR PROGRAMS LET’S TRY SOMETHING NEW! Let’s try to get each county to focus on getting new FCE members at the same time in the same way with ONE BIG WESTERN REGION PUSH! Look for more details at Mini-Conference! PEGGY ERVIN, VICE PRESIDENT FOR PUBLIC POLICY Eight members from Western Region participated in the April FCL Training. Five of those have finished and will graduate in November at TAFCE Conference. Three will need one more session, so we will have the opportunity to send more members to the August training session. If you are interested in FCL training, applications are due to me by August 1, and are selected by date of arrival. Time to turn in CVU hours has now passed. I am reporting for 16 counties, 206 members with 132,500 volunteer hours with 498,937 people reached. I will submit the Best of the Best entries I have received. I have been attending WR Board meetings, and joining in planning for WR MiniConference and the TAFCE Conference hosted by WR in 2015. I will be “retiring” from my position this year. Here is an opportunity for someone to join the WR Board and see FCE in a different way. JUNE ROSS, EDUCATION CHAIR Each county should have sent me a list of their first and second place Cultural Arts winners by July 1. Please check to make sure each winner has paid her dues to the region and state for 2014. If your county has not sent the winners list, forms may be printed from the TAFCE website. However, categories 30 (Quilts: Hand or Machine Pieced and Professionally Quilted) and 31 (Quilts: Cathedral Window or Appliquẻ) have not been updated, so please correct these on your forms. If you have questions, call me at 931-296-7612. PATTY MAYHALL, 2015 TAFCE CONFERENCE COORDINATOR The first planning session for the 2015 TAFCE Annual Conference, hosted by Western Region, will be on September 16 at the Regional Office in Jackson. Please plan to attend and bring your ideas! All counties are encouraged to have someone in attendance as committees will be assigned. Theme boards with suggestions for the conference will be voted on at WR MiniConference, with the top three taken to the TAFCE Board meeting in August for final selection. Each county is encouraged to have an entry board with ideas for the theme, decorations, gifts, etc. Please call or email me if you have any questions. ~~~~~ “Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers. It may not be difficult to store up in the mind a vast quantity of facts within a comparatively short time, but the ability to form judgments requires the severe discipline of hard work and the tempering heat of experience and maturity.” —Calvin Coolidge COUNTY NEWS CARROLL COUNTY Decorating the MAC with daisies and vintage aprons, bonnets, tablecloths and glassware, West Carroll FCE Club hosted the Carroll County FCE Spring Rally in McLemoresville on May 5.
