There are also Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma exit points. The course comprises of three 30-credit core modules, one 30-credit optional module and a 60-credit dissertation. Core modules You will take three core modules: • Language Teaching: Methodology and Curriculum • Understanding Language Learning and the Language Learner • Exploring TCSOL in Context Optional modules You will take one optional module, providing you with freedom in selecting course components to suit your individual needs and interests: • • • • Assessment in Language Education Managing Language Teaching and Developing Teachers Materials and Technology in Language Education Teaching Languages to Younger Learners If your first language is not English, you should achieve an overall IELTS score of at least 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element). If you have not reached the required IELTS (or recognised equivalent), you can attend a full-time English language course at the University’s Centre for English Language Education before registering for your degree: www.nottingham.ac.uk/cele/presessional If Chinese is not your first language, you should either: • hold an HSK (hanyu shuiping kaoshi/Chinese Proficiency Test) Level 5 certificate (or approved equivalent) • have an approved first degree which includes a substantial Chinese language component (equivalent to HSK Level 5) Candidates without these qualifications may be considered on an individual basis. To complete the masters programme successfully, a pass of 50 must be achieved on each assignment. For award of the MA, you must also complete a 60-credit dissertation of 15,000 words on an approved topic. Entry requirements You would normally be expected to hold a good first degree with at least a second class honours from an approved university or institute of higher education. You should preferably have some experience of classroom language teaching, or hold a first degree which includes language teaching methodology components, or have attended a substantial language teaching methodology course.
