Students Beginning 6th Grade 2014

Students Beginning 6th Grade
2014-2015 School Year Summer Reading List
Dear Sixth Graders:
Welcome to Kennett Middle School! In an effort to promote life-long literacy, students who
are entering sixth grade should select two books from the 2014 Summer Reading List. This
list canalso be found on the Kennett Middle School Library Home Page accessed at
catalog.kcsd.org. Once there, the Summer Reading link will provide you with the list as well
as bibliographic information about the book. Clicking on the title will provide a brief
summary as well as subject headings. These descriptions will help parents and students
select books based on their interest and independent reading ability.
Use the graphic organizer template provided to record essential elements of the books you
have chosen. Use a separate organizer for each novel. This can be found on the district
website as well. When the new school year begins, grades will be issued for each of the
organizers, so complete them carefully. Your Language Arts teacher will provide a due date
for the organizers during the first week of school.
Understanding that all students have different interests and reading levels, please select
two(2) mandatory books with your parents. Two assigned graphic organizers are due in
your Reading/Language Arts class during the first week of school. Please access your
assignment and graphic organizers on the KMS website.
Enjoy your summer and happy reading!
