Greetings,
Many of you may have
noticed some activity around
the
post
building.
Hollis Donehower and a
volunteer crew
have
undertaken the project of
tuck pointing the outside
walls of the building and
painting them. Significant
progress has been made and
the building should be ready
for paint at the end of
August.
Other
projects
approved by the post and
hopefully
completed
by
October are repair of the
roof and installation of a new
rear entry door.
Congratulations to the
VFW Buddies
for
their
outstanding tournament
play. They epitomized team
play in their quest for a state
title. They came up just
short, but represented the
community
and
Winona
youth baseball extremely
well. A fund raiser to offset
expenses incurred while at
the state tournament is
scheduled for September

Fish Fry
9th. One of our outstanding
fish fries will be the fund
raiser. Many of the volunteer
fish fry crew will be assisted
by parents of the players.
The cost will be the same
as our regular monthly fish
fry. Tickets are available
from players and parents.
Walk ins will be welcome so
our regular customers are
encouraged to take in the
extra fry. Our regularly
scheduled fish fry will be held
in September as usual.
I attended the District
meeting in Owatonna a
couple of Saturdays ago,
August 5th in fact. As a post
we are doing reasonably well
where our responsibilities are
concerned. (On that note,
please check your membership cards to make sure
your dues are current and
paid up.) The next district
meeting is October 1st in
Rochester.
In closing we are nearing
the fall season. Several
significant
projects
are
coming up so keep in mind

England Trivia
England is old and small
and the local folks started
running out of places to
bury people. So, they
would dig up coffins and
would take the bones to a
bone-house and reuse the
grave.
When reopening these
coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins
were found to have
scratch marks on the
inside and they realized
they had been burying
people alive.
So they would tie a string
on the wrist of the corpse,
thread it through the coffin
and up through the ground
and tie it to a bell.
Someone would have to
sit out in the graveyard all
night, (the graveyard shift)
to listen for the bell; thus,
someone could be,
''Saved by the Bell '' or
was considered a ''Dead
Ringer'' And that's the
truth.
Now, whoever said
History was boring ! ! !
So get out there and
educate someone!
More English Trivia
Sometimes they could
obtain pork, which made
them feel quite special.
When visitors came over,
they would hang up their
bacon, to show off. It was
a sign of wealth that a
man could, "Bring home
the Bacon." They would
cut off a little, to share with
guests and would all sit
around talking and ''Chew
the fat''.
