Week 5: Community February 5th 2017
Rotary clubs give our members a way to get involved in making their local communities
better. Membership and involvement in a Rotary club makes an individual a better
community citizen and more connected with community leaders and the needs of the
community.

Westerville Rotary Students of the Month for February 2017
Pictured left to right: Jackson Blackstone, Westerville North; Emme Vair, Westerville Central; Amy Feltz,
DeSales; Parker Williams, South; and Janet Withers, Rotary Club of Westerville member.
Emme Vair is a junior at Westerville Central. Last quarter she earned a 4.6 grade point average (GPA). She
enjoys studying English and is a member of the volleyball team, Key Club and Spanish Club. She tutors at
Fouse Elementary; is a Junior Mentor at Genoa and Blendon Middle Schools; and works as a swim instructor at
Aqua Tots. This scholar athlete hopes to attend The Ohio State University.
Anatomy, Government and Psychology are favorite subjects of study for Westerville North senior
Jackson Blackstone, who holds a 3.79 GPA. He participates in wrestling, baseball, National Honor Society
and the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee. He coaches youth wrestling and baseball teams in the
community and has volunteered to feed the homeless. Blackstone is a Captain on his wresting and baseball
teams, and has earned spots on the Honor Roll and Merit Roll. He was also named Student of the Month. He
plans to attend Columbus Community College and the Columbus Fire Academy to become a firefighter and
paramedic.
Westerville South senior Parker Williams is a four-year varsity cross country runner, three-year varsity
bowler, and one of the founders of the Genoa Middle School Garden. He is also a Genoa Legacy Mentor.
History and Law are his favorite subjects. He runs in many charity races and enjoys visiting National Parks and
exploring nature. He has helped organized food collections for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Williams earned
his Eagle Scout in May of 2013 and received six Eagle Palms. He has been accepted to Otterbein University
where he will study Education.
Amy Feltz holds a 4.0 GPA at DeSales, where she likes Biology and Spanish classes. This senior participates
in volleyball, track and field, and the Environmental Club, and she serves as a Student Ambassador. She also
volunteers at the Westerville Area Resource Ministry and the Franklin County Dog Shelter. Feltz is a member
of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, and she was 1st Team All League and 2nd Team
All District in volleyball. Feltz plans to major in Pre-medicine and minor in Spanish at the University of
Dayton or the University of Cincinnati.
Westerville Community Bowl-a-Thon 2017
February 11, 2017
The Columbus Bowling Palace
Benefit for the Westerville Education Foundation, Westerville Public Library, and the Westerville Symphony.
The Morning Rotary Club (in the person of Bob Gibson) has challenged our club to a contest to see which club
prevails in numbers of participants, highest score, and dollars contributed. Even if you don’t bowl, please feel free
to ask someone to bowl in your/our club’s name and/or you can make a donation.
The Executive Bowl is at Noon and is limited to 64 players. Gwen Nichols and Janet Scott are participating in that.
Sign up to bowl yourself, or if you could put together a team of five players, that would be great! (Name to be
inserted) is coming on a team from his office.
Executive Bowl: $300
Single Player: $25
First flight: 1:00 pm
Team: $ 125
Second flight: 2:45 pm
Patricia Hughes will have the sign-up sheet available in each meeting leading up to the event. On
February 2, Tara Trigg, the chair of the Bowl-a-thon committee is coming to our meeting as Patricia’s
lunch guest and if you’d like to donate, you could do it directly to her during that meeting.
Thanks for your support of this worthy community event.

You can get 50% OFF YOUR DUES Next
Year!
THE CLOCK IS TICKING – BRING A NEW MEMBER INTO OUR ROTARY CLUB BEFORE JUNE
30, 2017 AND YOUR DUES FOR NEXT ROTARY YEAR WILL BE reduced by half!
New Member Rodney Peters
Rodney Peters has been approved for membership in our club.
Rodney lives in Westerville, is married to his wife Mackenzie and is
employed by Lifetime Financial Growth in Columbus. Rodney has
been to the last two meetings and is sponsored by Bill Tompos. This
is the second of the required two publications in our Rotogram.
Concerns and/or objections should be directed to the Secretary.
Rodney will be inducted this week at our meeting.
Last week at our meeting:
Laurie Pfieffer was our greeter this week and welcomed our guests
and visiting Rotarians. PP David Read did our invocation and pledge.
PE Lisa Janszen was in charge of our meeting this week as President
Mike Ronau was on a business trip to the sunshine state. Janet Scott
pulled the 9 of clubs for a quick $10.00 win but the Joker is still hiding
in the deck for you to win. The jackpot is well over $500.00 now and
growing! Value strip of 10 tickets for a mere $5.00 is yours this week
at Medallion!
This week, Steve Malik was our Sgt.-At-Arm’s and picked John
Swartz for his special person of the week. Steve did a great job again
this week but still failed to hit the record set by Dawn McDaniel. The
challenge is on!
Justin Young and Tom Shaver presented a slide show of the RHV5K
Run and Walk. The results were positive as the event continues to
grow. Special thanks was given to the presenting member of our
club, PP Aza Bittinger for his hard work and timeless dedication to
make this event possible in the beginning. Thanks also went out to all
of the members that worked so hard that day to make this new annual
event possible.
PP rock Lantz informed our group of the upcomming
Honor Flight Pancake Breakfast and thanked our club
for the donation to this organization from our road run event.
