Uses
An airport should be equipped with the necessary wind cones
to visually provide approach and surface wind direction
information to pilots.
Features/Benefits

Lighting Assemblies – LED versions
Wind Cone Classifications
• The externally lighted wind cone provides illumination on the
upper surface of the fully extended windsock. The external
lighting unit uses four LED floodlights.
• The internally lighted wind cone provides an average
illumination on the top and lateral surface of a fully
extended windsock. The internal lighting unit uses LEDs for
the illumination of the windsock.
• Both versions are fitted with a L810 top LED obstruction light.
Lighting Assembly – Halogen & Fluorescent version
• The externally lighted wind cone provides illumination on the
upper surface of the fully extended windsock. The external
lighting unit uses four halogen floodlights. A L810 top
obstruction light is fitted with a halogen bulb.
• The internally lighted wind cone provides an average
illumination on the top and lateral surface of a fully
extended windsock. The internal lighting unit uses a 26 watt
fluorescent bulb for the illumination of the windsock. A L810
top obstruction light is fitted with a 10Watt fluorescent bulb.

Packaging
The operation of the wind cone is entirely dependent on the
direction and relative velocity of the surface wind. Movement
of the wind through the open throat of the cage and into the
sock causes the tail to inflate. The tail of the inflated sock
indicates true wind direction for velocities as low as three
knots through a 360° circle about the vertical shaft.
